Unmarked traffic cars are still able to stop you, they are all video equipped etc, its the unmarked cars used by CID etc that are not able to pull you for traffic offences.

Its not the car but the officer that cannot be 'unmarked'.
Basically, they have to be in full uniform to stop you for a traffic offence which is why they always put helmet on when getting out of the car.
Of course, a lot of unmarked cars have plain clothes officers in them, hence the necessity to call for backup.

that's too sly!! at least when they are fullyshirted and you are about to go past at 80 on the motorway you can slow back down or something.
Oh wait, should never speed blah blah blah the motorway speedlimit is more than adequate for today's cars

so what happened before? if they where plain clothed & identified themselves as police they could book you, right? not that i would believe/trust them. I guess that is why they are changing the law

I remember seeing a program about a specialist vehicle unit (drove a Sapphire Cossie) up North that was unmarked and was driven by traffic coppers in civvies. When I watched it the coppers were in football shirts. Boy racer pulls up alongside at lights, sees a couple of youngish blokes in footies shirts in a Cossie and screams away from the lights. Must have got the suprise of his life when the blue lights went on. It was at night as well.
It seems like, if the Police want to, they can use any means they want to disguise the fact they are the Police - up until the point they want to nick you. They'll be driving slammed Nova's next...

The police go by their own traffic rules. Last week I swear that 2 parked in a disabled car park (without any lights) and went off to a pub. If only I had my camera back then I would've had taken some pics.

The question is, are we allowed to make a citizen's arrest on them for traffic offenses? It would be cool if we could. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

"X Cars" Pretty good series the police actually liked performance cars and were (I thought) very professional. Like to see another series of them please Beeb. Unlike another lot that were followed round once. Had a Escort Cosworth and Dog Van in tow, spent half an hour chasing a stolen moped! and was a bit concerned by the level of Red mist that descended upon the driver. Seemed like an accident waiting to happen, thoiugh I was relieved to find out that subsequently they were disbanded from Vehicle unit.
In relation to your point about being undercover all the time, well its a bloody good way of being effective. Even a stupid Crim ain't going to try soemthing of their surrounded by uniforms and flashing lights are they!
