Default Quick LED lighting question

We have a LOT of MR16 50w Halogen bulbs in our house (previous owner hd them all installed during a renovation) and I'm keen on moving to LED replacements.

Wasn't sure if the current 12v transformers would work ok, but replaced one bulb and it stayed on with no flicker. Since it then looks like it will cope with the lower voltage, is there any benefits on changing the transformer out for a LED driver one? Makes any difference to consumption?

Many thanks.
Richard.

Have loads of these MR16's too - never really found a LED bulb that fitted properly or had the light output....

I know they are a **** connector though!

This is the one from Amazon that I bought - no flicker so far and colour tone and output is fine for the room (low ceilings).

I've considered swapping our myriad of GU10's (mains voltage) halogens for LED, having read around on the inter-web the current range of retro-fit LED bulbs are pretty cack and unlikely to give as good a light as halogen. The only option is to swap the down light to a dedicated LED fitment e.g. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Ind...hts/index.html

At around £30 per fitting upwards the cost, for me anyway, was prohibitive. I suspect if I wait a few years these will be down to £10-£15 each and then I might think about it.

Ouch - at £30 a fitting it puts it out of my price bracket.

I've put these GU10's in our kitchen (12 of them - got them for £5.90 each):

So far very pleased, and the light is easily good enough for us.

I'm slowly replacing mine with LED, kitchen and office are now all LED, the savings are very noticeable. The bathroom has 8! That's going to take awhile.

I've done both bathrooms and the kitchen with SMD Led GU10's which are in my opinion way better than the halogens they replaced! They're all dimmable which makes them slightly expensive as you need to get the right switches but I'd recommend them. I sacrificed a few lumens and went for warm white rather than the harsh cold white stuff- - tested loads and purchased them from simply LED.
