As more cars beat the emissions they just move the goal posts.

That'll be the "congestion charge" - you know, that monetary supplement to help reduce congestion (even though, after ten years - it hasn't)!

Can't have too many Gee-Whizses and Nissan leaves blocking up the roads - er, or something?

Nah, it is basically an extra tax on people who want to generate money for the UK economy. Oh, and a goldmine for the companies that operate the ANPR enforcement system

It's about time ALL drivers removed their plates and refused to put them back on.

And this is why i didn't buy into the whole green car bull crap, knew at some point all these car owners driving on free or cheaper tax/congestion charge etc, will end up paying.
I'm thinking soon in the future all these managed speed camera sections of motorways they are constructing, will eventually become a Toll.
Haven't bought your toll pass/badge camera gets your number plate..

Pity there isn't as much effort put into getting the millions of illegal cars off the UK's roads.

A few years ago I bought a petrol powered vehicle which achieved about 130mpg, and that equates to around 42g/km CO2. It was just under £2000 on-the-road, and has no expensive batteries to wear out (just the usual one to start the engine).

For some reason, though, it doesn't qualify for zero road tax - though it would still be exempt from the congestion charge.

It was a Honda CBF125. Why more isn't done to encourage people to ride motorcycles escapes me; getting a licence just gets harder and harder.

HAHAHAHA - according to to the DirectGov website - there are currently *NO* cars even in the Band A that is under 75g of Co2 - the closest is a Yaris Hybrid at 79!!

So they may as well as said all cars pay!
I guess fully electric like the Leaf must still qualify?

Glad you pointed that out about motorbike licence.
I know someone who was talking to an examiner some months ago before all this new motorbike test law came in this year, and he said its purposely being made harder to pass.
I wonder if its to keep these young dick heads off mopeds etc,you know the ones that drive like idiots and wear tracksuit bottoms..

I know the ones. The ones who remove the exhaust and insist on riding past my house at 10pm and 5am!

Does nothing to prevent them. They still take a CBT and ride with L plates for 2 years. This discourages people from actually learning to ride properly and take the necessary tests.

Eventually the Governments will claim the earth's air is theirs and we'll all have to pay tax to breathe it.
Those caught jogging or exerting themselves in any other way will be charged more.
Those caught farting will be made to find their fart and catch it in an empty jam jar..

Of course this will be when all cars run on water with zero emissions so they will turn to humans for pollution tax.

Probably discourage even more now with the new rules,so someone from the age of 16 to get a full motorbike licence which allows to ride any cc power bike, now has to take 3 tests, the final ine being at 24 yrs of age.or I suppose you could wait till 24 and do the unlimited access . That's how I understand it.makes seem like taking your car test a piece of ****

Nothing wrong with reducing the emissions from engines, as long as it is done with a bit of common sense.

So the air one-inch inside the congestion zone will never mix with the air just outside of it?

Gotta be worth a tenner to maintain that clean zone - er, wait a minute?

So if you have a van over 10 years old you can pay £100 to enter London or you will receive a hefty fine.

So if you cannot afford a new van and work in London now you are screwed

My brother in law & father in law bought the same model Yaris within 4 weeks of each other, Father in law was impressed because it was about £30 a year road tax, so when BIL goes to buy one he gets a suprise at first tax £100. when he checks dealer says oh they changed banding for emissions as too many cars were getting cheap tax...

I dont mind paying road tax even if its over £400 as its basically a hobby not just transport, but i wish they would sort out the no insurance,no tax or MOT cars that you see day in day out being driven by none registered keepers

I don't understand this congestion charge we are currently at Evelina children's hospital near Big Ben drove in and payed £10, my parents have a Lexus ct, £0 road tax and still had to pay the congestion charge so I can't really understand the point in buying such Eco cars, my parents only bought it as liked the car itself not because it was Eco friendly
