Agreed though. Shame really as he once had everything. Hopefully he's sorted his sorry *** out now after a spell in rehab. Probably not though!

its the same reason they used to invite olly reed onto chat shows, put him in the green room with a free bar for an hour beforehand then shove him in front of a tv camera with parkinson and watch the viewing figures go through the roof as everyone tunes in to see what he will do. i bet that wasnt your opinion of him when he scored that amazing goal against scotland in euro 96 :
a shame to see a great talent end up this way.

doubt he's been 'led astray' think its a case of giving up football and not preparing for life after it. He's always been the type of guy who's up for a pint or 10, and that's when he was in his prime. Shame, but he's only got himself to blame. Oh, he also battered his wife, so **** him.

I blame Bobby Robson and Terry Venables, never were hard enough on him to make him realise drink was a bad thing for him. Made me laugh in Gary Nevilles autobiography when he said that the England higher ups told them they weren't allowed to drink when they were playing internationals yet Gazza could do what he want and they found it funny when he'd turn up destroyed the next day.

I've read his book and it's not difficult to see how is troubles began.
I really want to see him get better, but fear for his long term health.

I feel sorry for him...he clearly was a very talented football player who is totally lost now not being a player. I hope he gets the help he needs but I do fear for his future because he might end up going the same way as George Best.

i think hes already there. the disappointing thing is he could have done a few things after he retired, a tv pundit, coaching etc. probably not a commentator due to his thick accent but a regular on the shows. seems to me like has been said, he just didnt seem to see beyond the finishing of his career on the park and still wanted to be the jack the lad in the pub with chris evans and danny baker and all those guys who thought he was a funny guy who liked a bevvy and was a good player. the trouble with being the pub clown is everyone expects you to get drunk and do silly things and have a laugh all the time and so being the clown you feel compelled to do it and not disappoint everyone. but then those guys go home and you are left drinking on your own and it just spirals from there. i hope he responds to the treatment hes getting and comes through the other end.

He has not been short of help and consideration from his friends by the way.
