New MOT regs come in force today
Just thought it maybe worth reminding you all
We just failed a bloke for a airbag light on. He was rather pissed off....even moreso when he was told if teh car was tested yesterday it would have passed!!
Most of it is bullcrap, as the airbag light can be removed/disabled and the car will then pass! How safe is that?...someone can then drive a car NOT knowing the airbags are defective, beggers belief
But these silly things like airbag lights and trailer sockets and stuff may cause people to come a cropper:
Here's the FULL MOT test manuals: http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/cr...sandguides.htm
Excuse the cut and paste:

HID Headlights should have a self levelling system and must be working to pass.
HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high, so they are generally (if light output exceeds 2000 lumens) fitted in conjunction with headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted the tester will switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted.
Can you clarify?

So have they got a print out of every car and how many cats its supposed to have, this really does change a few things for anyone thinking of removing 1or2 cats and still being able to pass the emissions, now it's purely a visual inspection that will fail you.
I wonder how many friendly mot places will still be friendly after these changes.

Since it clashes directly with the MSA rule book, how are they going to apply this to the thousands of what now appear to be formerly road legal competition cars in this country

Seats
It must be possible to secure the driver's seat fore and aft adjustment mechanism in two or three different positions. On electric seats the motors must move the seat fore and aft

How does my seat in my car being permanently fixed in a position that suits me affect the car's roadworthiness

What about cars, that the HL washing is on a cycle...
So Mr tester presses it once ... Clears screen but not HL Fail
tries again Fail
and again Fail
And again Fail
Once more ...Pass?
if i recall my early scoob was only HL every 5th wash cycle
Steering lock? im ferked. saabs dont have a steering lock
And there will be some mighty unhappy new supercar owners, who's seating position is ...one position tailiormade to them
gotta love em lol

I am led to believe that with the new MOT program on the computer the tester inputs the reg of the vehicle to be tested and it tells them what should happen with dash lights etc. Surely this could be modified to state how many cats a vehicle should have.
By the way when I MOT'd my 2005 landrover defender the paperwork said the ABS light should come on and stay on for 5 seconds then go off. The owners manual states it stays on until the vehicle reaches 4mph (the owners manual is correct). Does it therefore fail an MOT as it doesn't do as the computer says it should (a VOSA / ministry error) or is the use of common sence permitted? Surely this same common sense would be used with regards to fixed bucket seats, cars with moveable pedal boxes and fixed seats, etc.
