Default Pay your council tax over 12 months...

I have just received my Council tax bill - £2228 of goodness.....

Did you know you can now pay over 12 months instead of the default 10 to reduce your monthly payments due to recent legislation change?, although your council will *NOT* be eager to tell you this as it affects their cashflow (apparently)

My monthly bill went down by £40 a month...

I did quite enjoy the 'payment holiday' in Feb & Mar - but I think 40quid a month is more handy! (I would have preferred the payment hol over xmas!)

Just email your council or check your bill carefully - it should tell you.

Here endeth this public service announcement

We got ours yesterday, had spotted this change in the paper a while back so checked the letter and mention was made in the small print so I rang them and expected a bit of a battle being local govt but was actually a very helpful chap that answered and it was very easy.

I know what you mean about the payment holiday but it is a pain to budget, screws my spreadsheet up, my rule is if it doesnt cost any more, pay it monthly, if it does, save across the year and pay in one go, I hate paying £100 extra on bloody insurance policies or taxing a car for six months and paying an extra £25, with a bit of planning I dont need to, over a year for a bit of work I can save a few hundred quid.

Brilliant news

Not bothered whether it's 10 or 12 months, but if 12 months p1sses them off then 12 months it is. Seeing as the council round here seem happy to publish 90 page documents on the legaiities of walking a dog and put 20mph signs on pedestrian alleyways the more hassle I can cause the bunch or morons the better

Yep this has crossed my mind before - I reckon its only a matter of time!
What other service do you know of where its the same cost whether you pay up front or monthly.... i.e NONE!

Unless they are going to give a discount for settling it in one go! (yeah right!)

Because there would be uproar, the services are delivered monthly so the payments should be, a lot of councils have money in the bank anyway, the main thing is not to anooy the ones who dilligently pay it each month, start adding interest it would smack of profiteering as for most families it is their biggest yearly bill, as it is I can ignore the 210 quid a month but a bill for £230 a month, an extra 10 percent over the year would **** me off, as it is I now pay over 12 months at £176 a month, I notice it less, it makes it easier to budget and saves me getting annoyed about it.
