I'm 27 with 4 years NCB, 3 points riding for 5 years paying £247 on a GSXR600 (TPFT)
Try www.mitch.co.uk get an online quote then phone them (pretend you haven't done an on-line quote) and it will come out about £30 cheaper
Did you know that the CB500 is half a FireBlade engine?

I'm 36, been riding ages, only had one claim ever (6 years ago, full write off to the value of 7K), currently clean licence, fully comp on my GSXR1000 costs 340 quid, which I think is pretty damn good.

31, 1 year bike NCB, passed full test 1 year ago, £405 TPFT on a new CBR600F2. Mind you it's got loads of security.
I went to www.insurance2000.co.uk and they took my impeccable () 13 years car NCB into account! Worth a try?

GSXR1000 is awesome. Massive power and great chassis.
Mind you it's ruined by the standard steering damper, but I recently changed that for a MATRIS progressive damper and it's like a totally different bike. No wonder the R1 keeps winning the tests based on ease of turn in, the standard damper means slow speed manoueveres or tight tracking is understeer city.
Sorted now though.
I'm very happy with it. Before it I had Blade 2001, R1, Hayabussa, R1, GSXR750, CBR600, and I'd rate it as best of the lot, although to be honest I still think the 2001 Blade had a better chassis for road use.
Mind you the GSXR750 is still a top, top bike, and might make sense on an insurance basis.

I've got a GPZ500, N reg.
43, TPF&T - £145 through 1st Quote online. No NCD, just passed test.
Could have got same cover for £132 through another outfit, but their office was closed when I phoned over the Easter Bank Holiday.

Thanks sheepsplitter still thinking 1000 told them i'll only pay 7300, there asking 8600 greedy gits, like the red and black and will get the damper you recommended, which setting did you use, if it's adjustable ?.

Is it? That would make a 'blade motor two CB450 motors...
There's an entire section of Honda's production line devoted to chopping blade motors in half with a big bandsaw.
Seriously, the CB500 motor is very different to the CB450 motor and the gearbox arrangement is based on the blade, I beleive they use the same pistons too.

Motorcycle City are selling last years identical GSXR1000s for 7K.
The only change is the model number. That's the one I bought, although I did pay 7.5K 3 months ago :-(
Currently I'm running the damper on 6 clicks off soft, which means the bars can begin to flap if severely provoked, but then they settle immediately. I like riding this way, as it warns me when things are getting a bit interesting, but the damper sorts it out. I've tried it on max setting and it totally stops the bars from flapping and doesn't add any noticeable drag to the steering, but it just isn't quite as exciting :-)
