Default Ban smoking in cars when children are in the car

Taken from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21593334

We've had it here (http://www.mhp.gov.on.ca/en/smoke-free/simv/default.asp) since 2009.

Curious to know what others think about it. Plus how will it be policed?

That's right - you can't legislate against stupidity.
Parent selection is probably one of the most important decisions we make in life, but unfortunately, is the one we probably give the least consideration to.

As some already know, I gave up the smokes fourteen months ago. Recently, I've had to spend time around some heavy smokers and I've breathed in their second hand smoke. This has left me with a sore throat, a blocked-up nose (with some blood in the mucus when blown) and oddly, but ultimately understandable, a desire to have a cigarette. I smoked in a car that had a child in it and now feel completely ashamed that I did. I'd support a ban.

Right to smoke and all that, but I can't understand how parents can smoke in the house, or car with children around.

Just plain selfish.

How stupid and selfish can parents be?

There should also be a ban on people smoking around a building exit/entrance, particularly supermarket doorways. It's annoying having to hold my breath to get past the smokers.
I've seen women with toddlers in the shopping trolley seat light up as soon as they get outside.

I don't dislike much in my life, my biggest dislike is involuntary secondary smoking.

I'd support it. Infact I'd support a ban on anything that involves smoking in or around children. That includes in their own homes, cars, whilst pregnant. Obviously that will never come into force but forcing your second hand smoke onto your child is akin to child abuse, especially with what is known nowadays.

Seeing fat c*nt parents smoking in the car dropping their kids off to my local infant school is an absolute classic IMO.
It rates up there with the ***** who think standing at the gates with their dobermans is a good idea.
Imagine what Miss Honey (the teacher) thinks when the five years olds come into class stinking of ****. "Great way to start the day" I'm sure.

It should be banned in cars whether carrying children or not. It`s no different to using a mobile phone imo...plus it makes the car stink

100% correct.

If it's illegal to bite an apple, or swig from a water bottle, it SURE AS HELL ought to be illegal to fumble a *** ouit of a packet, light it and sit with it between your fingers.

They are there because people like you complained about them being inside. Remember the smoking ban? Some people are never happy....

If you can't tell already...I smoke, and I like it.

I do agree about the children thing though, they shouldn't be made to inhale second hand smoke. But lets be honest, most smokers realise this, its a minority (usually morons of society) who get stupid laws introduced.

I'm a smoker and I'd support a smoking in cars ban. Hard to enforce though.

I also find it the height of irony when going to any hospital and there is always a couple of smokers hanging about outside.

Why!!? the car is one of the few places that I can enjoy a smoke without anyone moaning about it. And at the same time, in my car, its only me breathing in the smoke. So Im saving the children!!!

It is not against the law per se - In the same way that it is not against the law to pass another vehicle in the near-side lane on a two lane dual carriage way.
It is just a matter of how the powers that be choose to interpret the highway code.

That definitely sounds like one out of the Australian statute book-
along with other gems like it being illegal to drive with your arm resting on the door, parking your car around the wrong way, touching your mobile phone in car (even when stationary) and so-on.
And it is not just the police who will tell you, other helpful citizens will happily alert you of your criminal tendencies as well.
It's just so laid back there.
It wouldn't be so bad, but the death rate is nothing to write home about and drivers there can be pretty unhelpful - to say the least.

Exactly. There is no law that says you cant eat or drink.

Fair enough. If you are on your own then smoke away. Sticking to the topic I would support a ban on smoking when children are also in the car.

I take it you wouldn't object to that?

Personally I would say such a law is pointless and that it would be better to educate people not too smoke when there are children around indoors etc.
I guess I just don't like being told what to do (a lot).
ps I don't smoke - but you never know, I might like to take it up one day.
