Default looking for a job. What websites, anyone any tips.

I'm looking for a new job for the first time in 16 years.

What websites do people use?

Any other good tips from finding a vacancy, to my CV, to the interview.

Thanks
Paul.

As with a lot of jobs it's right place and right time
And it may be the case that a company is thinking of hiring but you can just get your foot in before they advertise vacancies

Good luck trying to find something mate , just be relentless and try not to let it get you down

maybe try and find out if there are job websites dedicated for the line of work you are in

i know Law and IT, to name but two, have have dedicated Jobsites

but maybe in this climate the proactive approach (as mentioned above) is a better option

good luck Paul, ****ty time to be looking for a job

re CV, the only advice I have is, the older you are the shorter it should be

so, over 40 - 2 sides max

To echo above - most industries have their own specialised job boards.

For generic stuff use:

reed.co.uk
totaljobs
monster.com

As above, ring around, speak to friends/family for word of mouth etc. CV should be precise and to the point, 2 pages max. Good covering letter selling yourself without arrogance should the position application depict it

Also, little known but if you are unemployed and claiming Jobseekers, you should/could be entitled to vouchers etc. for 'employment purposes'. I got a pair of steel to capped boots for my appreciation day before starting on the local Steelworks, and indeed a full suit/shoes from Burtons for my interview. They saw me as a genuine case so made sure I got what I was entitled to regards this.

Best of luck Paul, but NEVER apply for Bibby Distribution or DHL.

Yeah, I agree with yourself and CoB defo have to sell yourself to new employers. Looking for a new role is a job in itself! I would echo the same websites mentioned, Jobsite, Monster, Fish4.

Get in with all the local recruitment agencies who haven't folded already and get on that phone to HR depts for orgs who you can identify as having the types of roles you'd like to fill.

I've found that you have to make sure you do a certain number of applications per day if you want to secure some 'hits'.

My bro was logistics/goods in/out management but has had to take a really crap role elsewhere until he finds what is right for him as he prefers that to the dole any day!

Good luck mate and I hope it's not long before you find what you want.

Oh and on a last point, maybe try registering on LinkedIn and check the jobs and careers sections of company pages and groups. http://www.linkedin.com

How's about Logistics Manager for Mclaren http://www.linkedin.com/jobs?viewJob...*2_*2_*2_*2_*2

damn, just seen that you're in Lincolnshire but there do appear to be lots of things on the Jobs section of LinkedIn from the quick look I just had. As before, good luck with the search.

Cheers,

Tom

Every month our local paper does a 'Business News' supplement where companies talk about expansions, gaining large contracts etc. From that you can work out who is likely to be hiring new staff, send them a CV with a covering letter 'Congrats on your new contract' kind of thing.
