Speed Dreams on BBC.
Anyone watch it last night?Next episode on Sunday I believe.
It's all about Brit amateurs making bikes for Bonneville Speed Week.
This week showed the build process & next week about the record attempts in the USA.
Some interesting stuff & some very talented,self-taught engineers.
It's on Iplayer if you missed it.Some proper old-school eccentrics. Also, look out for the answer one guy gives when they ask him why he is not married & has no kids..................hilarious

+1. They seem very (over)confident. They appeared to build bike in a shed, then fly a team and ship a bike to Utah with minimal testing. I would have thought a few airfield practice runs up to 100mph would be necessry to make the trip worthwhile. Maybe that aspect was not shown.

Watched it last night and thought it was superb a right bunch of characters. The guys that machined their own cranks and everything , pretty impressive stuff.
I need to have a look for the film about the guy from new Zealand that broke the record all those years ago that's never been broken.

It was good. Particularly liked that it took a British look at it (rather than just something mass produced for the world TV market by Americans).
Was surprised how much testing they (didn't) conduct. I realise funds are tight in most of these cases, but I would have thought some would have factored this in as they seem to have made very extensive plans for the build and ship.
Particularly liked the mass withdrawal from the Salt Flats when it rained.

Someone correct me but I thought there were faster British bikes of that vintage than those heavyweight lumps they were building - fabulous though they were - around at the time.
Didn't they put a Vincent 1000 engines into a lightweight Norton frame that was pretty damn quick (for the time) for example?
Great characters in the film, like the nutters you see at bike jumble shows

I loved this! Best programme I've watched in a while, I couldn't get my head around how the self taught engineer bloke had turned his own crank on a lathe. Epic
