Adverts on TV....are there more?
Is it just me, or has the gap between advert breaks on TV got smaller?
There seemed to be FOUR breaks, now there seem to be five
And average programme made in the USA, scheduled for an hour seems to have less than 35 minutes actual content, and STILL finishes in time for them to spend five minutes advertising the SAME programmes every break

An average American program is about 42 minutes. I know this as I try to download them when I can even if they are on Sky or similar. And when I am visiting America it is really hard to watch TV because of the breaks.
Advertisements in the US are incredibly annoying. With adverts straight after the titles and more adverts just before the last 30 seconds or so of the show. That is why if you ever watch American TV shows they finish, 'go black' in the UK and then come back for a few seconds before the titles. That is for the ad break in the US...

all american tv is like that, short 30 second breaks at regular intervals. even live sporting events are the same, basketball always goes to adverts during 20 second time out or stop in play.

Not many people watch 'live' tv surely?
Whenever we watch something that's recorded on ITV etc, an hour long programme actually turns out to be 45mins max once you've skipped through the ads.

i rarely watch anything thats not recorded , for that reason alone. I hate adds ! The ones that get to me at the min are Discovery (i think) that advertise the program that you are watching !
99% of them are false (or at least dishonest) advertising anyway. Laugh at the beauty products stats . . . . . . "79 percent of 112 women said they would recommend it to a friend" You only asked 112 people ! 79% of 112 people is crap for a product ! The worst Ebay feedback is still better than that !

For me the problem is not the adverts, its the endless repetition within the program itself. Program starts and you get a preview of what you are about to watch. You watch the program, then before the ad break, you see a recap of what you have just watched. The ads finish and you get another recap of what you watched 2 minutes ago and another preview of what you are about to watch. You watch the next section and the cycle repeats for each ad break and finally at the end you get another recap of what you just watched. So a 1 hour program after ads is only 40-odd minutes long, then if you take out this repetition there is probably only 30-odd minutes of content.
At what point did program directors decide we are all dribbling mongs with the attention span of a goldfish?

It's the bloody volume of the adverts that get me. If you enjoy your fave program's or films quite loud you get quite a shock when the adverts start at 50% increased volume. Should be stamped out. The volume should be level for everything
