I would but you don't need to in the Seychelles.

You must be terribly poor to have to over-winter in England.

Pete, you must have paid enough tax over the years to cover the small change that is the fuel allowance. Fair play to you.

Well, it's that time of year again ..... Winter Fuel Payment about to be paid to me.

Once again, I really MUST thank you taxpayers

This year I would like to buy something, rather than just putting it towards the swimming pool heating bill.

Got any ideas?

It's a flat £300 by the way ... suggestions?

Very funny Pete

You sure you qualify for the £300 payment, thought you had to be on benefits or live alone? just checking

"You could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills if you were born on or before 5 July 1951. This known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

Most payments are made automatically between November and December. You should get your money by Christmas.

You should get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you get the State Pension"

It's the State Pension bit which triggers mine - and it's not means tested, which is rather nice ...... and why I like to say a BIG Thank You to all the taxpayers reading this.

We find it is a boon when it comes to heating a rather old and naturally cold house.

Unfortunately for most of us you're never going to get back all that you put into HM Treasury's coffers but little nuggets like the fuel payment, basic state pension, etc. are something to look forward to I guess

Sounds like I'll be losing our child benefit payments as of next year
