Southern Scotland in February?
Got a couple of weeks booked off at the start of February and we're planning to rent a holiday cottage somewhere in the UK.
Can't quite decide where to go though. Few years back before I met the missus I had a holiday in Galloway and really enjoyed it, would like to go back, but the risk is that the weather could be bad enough to disrupt the holiday. Worst case would be snow preventing us from getting there / getting away. Can cope with most stuff aside from that.
Should I just go for it anyway or look for somewhere more accessible?
And no I'm not going abroad, not with a toddler and a pregnant wife

I used to live in the south west of Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway) and contrary to popular belief, it was never THAT cold (something to do with the gulf stream), and we didn't get all that much snow due to it being lower ground, the only really bad snow I can remember was in 1996, you'll more than likely have rain, I doubt there will be snow, but if there is, it'll be a fairly modest amount!

We stayed near Jedburgh one Christmas/new year, 2008 I think and can recommend that area, not far from Edinburgh and Berwick.
Nice roads, great scenery.
It was very cold but didnt get any snow.
Id happily live round there if it was a tad drier and warmer

Dumfiresshire is lovely
Gretna gateway shopping centre will keep the misses happy and your wallet empty
Gretna green visitor centre is worthy a look around too
Dumfries is ok and castle Douglas is a step away from time
Check out Kipford and rock cliffs
Kirkubridge is where the wicker man was filmed
Abbey road down to southerness is a lovely drive an looking onto the solway and the new wind farms in the solway firth looking down onto England
And a nice drive up to ayre via the forests is fantastic Subaru driving roads for 2hours
Great place I used to live near Dumfries and its a lovely place and doesn't attract the snow like further up Scotland
Well recomended and we still go back up there once a month

Thanks, sounds positive and I guess it's realistically bits north of Glasgow that can get the really heavy snow rather than the south. The missus is on about the Lake District anyway and Galloway isn't that much further north.
Agree with the above, the area is spectacular and as I mentioned I did spend a couple of weeks there not so long ago. Walking or mountain biking pretty much every day and the weather wasn't bad for October. Mountain biking facilities round the area are superb so I may have to sneak out of the odd ride this time around too Dumfries itself isn't much to write home about but there's a big Tesco so what more do you need

Actually lived in Dumfries for the best part of 18 years, then moved out to Kirkcudbright, which, as someone pointed out, isn't far from where the Wickerman was filmed (And the Wickerman Festival is held every year)
Then moved into one of the more remote villages attached to Castle Douglas, had a couple of beaches within walking distance (between 2 - 4 miles) and not bad Sea fishing in the area aswell.
Have now moved down into the middle of West Yorkshire, so no more beaches or fishing, but no more 20 min drives to the nearest shop either!
