Unwanted visit from travellers.

Unwanted visit from travellers.
We own about 8 acres of land which our house backs onto. Half of it is fenced off and this we where we keep our two horses.
The girlfriend was out there this afternoon when she noticed a white van and come onto the rest of the land.
She went and approached the two blokes and politely asked what they were doing.
One of them said that he was looking for somewhere to tether 20 horses. Caroline told him in no uncertain terms that was unnacceptable. He tried giving it but this is council land bollocks but she held her ground.
Any way turns out this ******* is a proper nasty piece of work and has threatened the lives of farmers families etc.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to handle this which doesnt involve me unlocking the shot gun cabinet.
Ploughing the field seems an option but when the farmer discovered who the traveller in question was he suddenly didnt want to get involved. Are there any other methods that could deter this vermin from using our land without provoking him too much?
Thoughts and advice greatly appreciated.

Ah sorry was going from your location under your avatar.
Could try the police and tell them saw some guns - saying that more likely to be interested in speeding !
Saxo boys option is probably best then ! as I don't think Lincs council will do much.

This is a sound idea, dig a huge trench across the entrance. It will be awkward for you but not as bad as having pikey scum on your land. But they may remove any hedge/fence.
I do know of one local plot of land where a load of them turned up. within a few hours the farmer turned up with a man and his CAT backhoe (I know the backhoe owner so its not just another made up storey). The guy started digging a trench at the gate going round the field so that the entrance would remain open until he had circled the small field. As soon as the farmer had left the gyspies went to the digger driver to ask what was going on. He told them that the farmer had hired him to dig the ditch all the way round the field. Finishing off across the gate. The farmer returned after a short while and the pikeys asked what was going on. He told them that if they hadnt left before the ditch was finsihed they wouldnt be going any where.
Very begrudgingly they cleared off the field. But the trench was completed.

dont hurt the horses as its not their fault, digging a trench wont do much as they will just walk the horses through the trench and up the other side, whatever you do dont back down to them because as soon as they see your scared of them they will walk all over you.
a pikey is nothing to be scared of,skin and bone just like you and me

Do what the locals are doing near my place, putting up metal fencing submerged into the ground, stops them from going anywhere.
Make sure you are clear on what the Police can and can't do so you know where you stand in the whole matter.

You really must inform the authorities including the police for your own and your girlfriend's protection. The information you already have about the bloke making the enquiry should persuade you to do that.

As you say the traveler is a nasty piece of work, Let him come on the land play it cool then out the blue pay a visit and teach him a lesson, the police will take no notice there full of sh*t tbh
