Question Quick Question

Daughter has had an accident in her car ..... all are well and it has been recovered home.

The Airbags deployed.

At initial inspection at the scene, by me, looks repairable within a sensible cost.

Insurance lady said that in 99% of cases where the airbags have deployed, the car is written off.

Now, she has a cherished plate on the car .......... clearly it stays with the car if being repaired - but, if a write-off, she wants the plate back.

Anyone any experience of these things?

Interesting, thanks for that.

I did think she would have to go through the swap over, which takes a bit of time. But, that way seems easier. It must happen all the time.

Thought it had something to do with as long as the car/vehicle had a current MOT then you could put the plate on a retainer or transfer to another vehicle. Am pretty sure you could sort something out with the insurance company in the event of a write-off - they won't "own" the car until they pay you for it so legally you should be able to transfer the plates to another vehicle prior to ownership transferring.

She can put the number on a retention certificate for a charge through DVLA and later transfer the number to another car Pete. I think the post office might even have an application form though I am not sure about that.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still thinking it can be repaired - but, looking at the Documents, it's almost always in the Insurance Companies interest to write-off ........ given that a Courtesy Car is only applicable if it is being repaired (not in the case of a write off). Ins Co. can also get something back on a write off - nothing back for a repair.

I am hoping they will be fair and repair.

You can always make the insurance company an offer on the car, once the claim has been settled

I did this on a written off golf of mine, then sold for scrap at a small profit

Glad all is ok with your daughter btw
