Lottery, do you bother ?
I set up the online lottery thing so I dont have to faff about buying tickets, dont seem to win very often, I only do the normal lottery, dont usually bother with the Euro Millions but put a tenner on for Christmas day and for New Years Day as I like the idea of winning a million quid as I think it is a manageable amount that would make a difference without changing things too much, I think the massive prizes are daft, would rather see lots of people with a beneficial amount than a vouple of people a year getting huge amounts.
So, does the million pound prize not do it for you, do you bother and what do you think is a good amount to win ?

I'm in a syndicate at work that does the Euromillions. Other than that I wouldn't bother. An ex girlfriend's mother once told me she lived for cigarettes and the lottery. Didn't see her daughter much after that

Yeah, but you have to go in a bookies, I know you can do it online but actually going in a shop, hmm, they are generally pretty scummy, they are always full of scallies, geysers or those blokes in crumpled suits that smell of **** and ale, usually refugees from a Weatherspoons, plus they are open when the working population are in work.

It's funny how they only tell you about the wins isn't it

Yep, I won £2121 probably ten years ago now, nothing since, I had 28 on my ticket for the last number and 25 on the actual draw, three off 2 million quid, doubt I will ever get any closer but the great thing is that whatever has gone before has no bearing on future draws, even a jackpot winner has the same odds.
I won a Golf GTI ten years before the two grand, so am due another win !

My wife's Weds/Sat syndicate has 38 members and they only win a tenner every few weeks. Occasionally it's four numbers, so around 65 quid, but that's it. It shows you how hard it is to win anything worthwhile.
I do think, after nearly twenty years, it's about time three numbers got you more than a tenner.
I met someone a while back who'd won just over £200,000 as part of a jackpot winning small syndicate, which is a fair old whack. But you couldn't retire on it or anything.
In fact, a million quid isn't really enough to retire on nowadays with interest rates being so low.
We still do all four draws individually though, as you never know.

its a sham in my opinion, the lure of winning brings in the punters. I have seen people spend hundreds of pounds on lottery tickets and scratch cards, that's just sad.

I've heard that quote lots of times. Why?
There are very few opportunities in life to become rich, so a chance is great irrespective of the social scale or intelligence.
If done in moderation with the 'chance' aspect. Some of the comments above is where it goes horribly wrong: People spending their last money on gambling etc..

Surely the fact that the lottery has created three thousand plus millionaires, plus god knows how many other people who have had a nice windfall (me included) must count for something, plus the lottery helps lots of good causes in this country.
I like the fact for a few quid a week I have the chance of a windfall, a syndicate at the Police wont 5 plus the bonus and all got ten grand each, not me but it was greeat to see people able to pay off debts, have a holiday, replace an old banger.
I think really the prizes should be capped at perhaps 3 million, why anyone would only bother for 100 million plus, I dont get, a million would make 90 percent of the difference to most people, set for life and could buy most of the material stuff they could ever want.
That couple that won 168 million seem to be doing some good stuff, good on them.
For me, a million would see me put a hundred each away for the kids as a start in life, perhaps move and get a house with a decent garage, few quid for friends/family and stick a bit away for the future, a track day car plus a few track days, few quid to charity, perhaps a 911 but other than that I have everything I need. Would keep working if I won a million, wouldnt do much different and wouldnt go daft as it can soon go, that ten grand pair of speakers looks at you accusingly when you run out of cash after a few years of wasting it.
