Halfords are not called HalFRAUDS for nothing!!
I have had my eye on a new Sat Nav ....... a TomTom Via 130 UK and ROI with Lifetime Maps.
It was £114:99, or something like that.
Imagine my excitement when I received word that they had a 10% OFF Sale on online sales ....... I went to buy it at £115 - 10%.
Guess what?
It's now priced at £129:99!!!
So, 10% OFF makes it the same - if not more - than it was a month ago!!!!!!!!!!
How can these places get away with scamming us?

They currently have to advertise it at the higher price for full price at 6weeks and they have to have stock! I think the thing your thinking of is that the price it's up for has to be logical before they slash then price: I.e
Argos do a pancake frying pan for £15. 6weeks before pancake day they put the price upto £30 and then do half price. - who pays £30 for a tiny pan.
They do this every year and sell roughly 18,000 a week - fact!
The new thing that has come in is that multi packs have to be cheaper then singles.
Don't forget they can put the price up. It's up to you to search around for the cheapest.
IIRC, I got my garmiin with world maps for £140 a few years back online. And the world maps work

I was actually thinking of pricing a watch from H.Samuel jewelers as i am expecting their prices to jump up in Jan just in time for me to use my £15 off voucher. I got it when i bought my wife a watch and it cant be redeemded till Jan , but lets face it , nothing comes for free so i will just wait till i see one i want and price round.

Another issue I had with halfords was with there advanced socket sets that have a *lifetime warranty* but yet when my ratchet broke and I took it back first they said it might not be one of theirs even though it had halfords advanced stamped on it and then when I explained to them how ridiculous that excuse was they said the warranty didn't cover moving parts ie ratchets and ratchet spanners etc! Never said that on the box when I bought it

i would say most people would not notice this tactic.
this is pretty much how all shops work. and as long as it keeps working they will keep doing it. After all they are only in it for the money.

Exactly. It's a free market. These firms are not providing a social service, they want to make money. If the TomTom can be had cheaper somewhere else, then buy it. Or better still speak to the store manager about the fraud and see if his criminal conscience gets the better of him.

I wonder if he even got it run through a scanner
It'll probably come up with the ten percent taken off anyway.
If not, move on,it's not difficult

What, his fantasy 'taken to court' list? I made the mistake of trying to help the lying fool, having an intimate knowledge of their HO policy and having helped others here; and I quickly realised that he was making it all up, and hadnt spoken to anyone.

They are not allowed to increase the price and then discount it within a 28 day period due to retail sales laws, If it has not been at £129.99 for the last month you have a case and I would ask them for the original price less the additional 10% discount not to cause a fuss, I did 10 years in retail/sales/management but left it 5 years back now, but I doubt the timescale would change if anything it would increase IMO.

But the item isn't advertised as being on sale? It just says £129.99.
It clearly was on sale prior to yesterday at the lower price but that has now ended.
Devious to have had it cheaper before then put it up but offer a discount, but I don't think they are doing anything wrong.

It's how a lot of national retailers can get away with this sharp practice, good business they would call it - fool the buyer into thinking they are getting a bargain, when in reality they are paying more than the previous 'local' price.
