Default BBC - Patten should go?

Patten, chair of the BBC trustees, seems to have got off pretty lightly in the BBC debacle.

He is there to look after our interests and should have known that the management structure at the Beeb was chaotic and told them to sort it out.

He then appointed Entwistle who clearly was out of his depth and then agreed to pay him half a million to bugger off. I saw the temporary DG on Newsnight last night - "no I don't believe in sacking people" - and he had about as much charisma as a dead cod. Patten again.

So Lord Patten, time to go and accept some responsibility.

Anyone agree?

He should be made to personally pay back the money that he slid across to Entwhistle.

Why was he given such a payoff though?

Did he have some 'dirt' on others I wonder?

Entwhistle should never have gone, let alone Patten. Tell me what do people think were his shortcomings? Why was he out of his depth? What in his 56 day reign has led you to this conclusion? I'm interested to see if any of you actually have an informed opinion on this or are just regurgitating the Mail.

He was given the pay off (i)Because it was in his contract and (ii)The BBC sort legal advice to see what the impact was of contesting the pay out , and the advice was that it would end up costing more than just paying him

Still, never let the facts get in the way of a good old anti BBC rant.

Yes, but he was paid a lot more than what was in his contract.

Well I saw him doing a couple of interviews where admittedly he was given a hard time but he was very weak in his responses. Not fit for purpose as the saying goes.

I don't read the Mail.

Patten and others assume he would have taken the Beeb to court for unfair dismissal but that is a big assumption. And private health care etc? I'd put a strong minded character like Andrew Mitchel at the helm

They are saying it was cheaper to do that then to be taken to court by him.
