Default Issues with a Sale \ Delivery

First time this has happened to me.

I sold an item privately (worth £300) - the guy paid via paypal - i posted via City Link Courior from work.

The parcel never arrived. (Last Thursday)

I called City Link - they confirmed they have a POD for the correct address and a xxx signing for it.

The seller said he does not know what this xxx person is and no courier came to make a delivery on Thursday to there house.

City link have escalated, and will come back to me in 24 Hours..

What shall i do now...Do i give the guys money back if it does not turn up or get found?

Another thing i found out my parcel is insured for only £30! i guess this is irrelevant if they have a POD? but could the POD be false?

If it's via Ebay and you sent recorded delivery with a tracking number then you should be covered.

Nope outside ebay...

sent via city link & given the buyer a tracking number. When checked online it says delivered to buyers address.

Either buyer is lying or the couriour driver

Surely it's up to City Link to confirm who they handed the parcel to.
I get deliveries via DHL and if I don't know the driver he asks for my name before I sign, even though my business name is on my door.

Couriers will let anyone sign for parcels, we work in other peoples houses and are regularly left on our own, I continually sign for stuff for our customers.
I always tell the courier that we are not the householder, and are just working there, never puts them off.

as long as you show paypal that it did get to the destination and was signed for then they should accept that , we have had customers trying it on saying they didn't receive stuff when they did , and paypal sided with us after showing them the proof

Micky_wrx works for City Link and I'm sure he could help if you ask. May know their procedures.

There is evidence of a delivery being made, and signed for.

No need for the courier to lie and forge a signature unless the item was of use to him, surely?

I'm thinking it's the buyers problem - not yours .....

if its been signed for then its not your problem.

city link would have taken it to the front door of the address you gave so why was someone else answering the door and signing for it lol
that's not your fault.

It's up to the buyer to be in when it's going to arrive. You could call the buyers bluff and say the couriers PDA has a camera in it and your waiting for the photo...

Unless the item looked of value to the courier driver and could see what the item was then its not the first time drivers steal things as they have a lot of agency workers etc, apart from that then it has been delivered to address or neighbour and driver may have forgot to post calling card to let the addresse know. But it's out of your hand as others have said, pod is as good as covered yourself and post tracking number on PayPal with courier company details and pod website link and you're Scott free.irrelevant to the name that's been signed.
