Employment rose 40,000 to 29.6 million, which was the highest figure since records began in 1971
This is what you get when real statesmen like Cameron and Osbourne are in charge, steering our nation out of the mire created by Labour.

A little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing.

I hate myself for even thinking of responding.

Among the details in the ONS report:

number in full-time employment rose 44,000
number in part-time employment fell 4,000

It's good news for sure.

My only complaint about the thread is the word 'more' in the title though

Good news, although I'll refrain from too much back-slapping the government at this stage.

There does seem to be a weird disconnect between the general doom and gloom surrounding the economy, and the unemployment rate

That is good news. In times of such unprecedented global economic turmoil we have to take some solace from the indicators that are going our way ie employment, low interest rates etc etc. I'm hoping David and George can keep this up until the next election.

A Tory majority is going to be very difficult to pull off but a Labour victory would be a disaster. They'll bankrupt us for another generation.

it would be interesting to know what the definition of a full time / part time job is

is a seasonal job full time if you are working 40hrs a week, but only for 3 months

good news

but i suspect the vast majority a low paid, low skill "casual" work (whether classed as full or part time)

the scary fact is wages are falling - for most people

Loving it: last month the Yorkshire and Humber region lost over 1500 jobs.
It was, apparently, too late to include that in the latest job figures.

NOW we are told the 3-month total is 29,000 LESS out of work.

I think someone, somewhere is massaging figures....Oh fek it, why even bother, THEY ARE LYING!

Well its a bit nonsensical too look at the total job figure when the population is vastly bigger than in 1971.

Look at the unempolyment figure as a percentage.

Of course they are, they're politicians! It would be interesting to see a break down by region! That might tell us a very interesting story!

Since the population is constantly increasing, it's entirely possible for both employment and unemployment numbers to rise at the same time...

I must say that I am not very keen to see our taxes being used to support people who have never put anything into the country. All for the sake of impressing other world leaders I reckon!
