To be fair the best thing he did was open the chute (if he even did that himself), the rest was out of his control as the car was mostly in the air.

Talk about instinctive driver reactions, You would have had no time to think about it, I like his style correcting left and right at 200+ mph would have gone very pear shaped without the shute.

I don't think he did much there except ride his luck

The body of a Funny Car is attached to the chute release, if the body comes of the chutes deploy automatically

I wonder what blew up, the heads and supercharger all looked intact when it slowed down

Well if you're losing you may as well make a show of it!

Top driving job to recover that.

When it comes to Drag Racing knowledge there is someone that springs to mind regarding retards

At exactly 1:36 of the vid I posted is the bit that can kill these guys.

Tyre shake is the dangerous thing about these babies.
John Force Racing / Ford and some other company have now developed a whole new roll cage design to allow for what is now recognised as Harmonic Oscillation which literally shatters the skull.

Tyre shake causes this in the fueler cars. A normal tyre shake is mega violent when the slicks remain on the wheels but when the tyre becomes loose is when the vibration can kill.
Eric Medlen was literally shook to death in one of these cars whilst experiencing tyre shake.
