CO Monitors
I've caught a couple of TV ads about these monitors and I wondered if a Landlord has a legal duty to provide them in rented accommodation where a gas boiler is in use?
Any Landlords know?
Thanks, David

No not under law they are not required but is deemed as "good practise"
And if you do install one (from a landlords view) then it should be made clear and in any tenancy agreements in place that the "tenant" is responsible for the maintenance and to check it is functioning as it should, as if you don't and you have provided them with such an alarm then the landlord can be held responsible and may be liable to prosecution in the event of a failure
I provide tenancy's in rented accomadation and deal with the council on a regular basis within my job, hope that helps

Mandatory that we had one fitted when our woodburner was installed (HETAS registered installer) so I guess that would carry forward if we were to ever rent the place out.
Surprised it's not the same for gas...

Just bought one from Indesit. £26 with p/p. Good value for a possible life saver.
My f-i-l was just rescued by his neighbours when he failed to light his solid fuel boiler properly and fumes filled the house. He had papered over the brick air vents to keep the house warm He was pretty pink when they found him semi conscious.

Came with 3 double AA's, well the ones I can see....
What I don't get is why we'd need one on each level, iv put it in the lounge - which is between the boiler in the kitchen and upstairs ( where we sleep)

Always the best option to have and I'm not sure about open fires / wood burners as I don't deal with them in my homes but can categorically tell you they are not required under law ( or not as yet ) for gas boilers, I install them as a matter of caution in my Dom homes, it's only a few quid compared to them possibly saving a life, no comparison IMO
