Yes I got it at the start of last week, - few changes, different colour flashing cursor on lock screen, option menu re organised. Nothing that seems to have effected use, seems a little quicker, but cant really tell !
There are a few list on the web that say what's changed.

It's an update of the os for smartphones,limited at the moment to what type of phone and network you're using as to when the update becomes available.web browsing and the keyboard I find is definitely better, much smoother.I'll need to have bit more of a play with it.

I suspect this one won't be available for the Desire S. I recently updated mine to ICS. Can't see that it made much of a difference TBH. I got that from the HTC website, and involved a full reset, so I had to backup everything.

Root it, that is what I have done with earlier phones when the manufacturer stopped support. My HTC Desire was given a huge leap in performance When I rooted it, plus lots of other features.
It is straight forward to root, especially if you're not the type of person that queues for their phones
