Charging a non-rechargeable battery !!!
Mother-in-law, bless her, for some unknown reason decided to replace the rechargeable batteries (AAA) in her cordless 'phone with standard AAA ones. She then put the 'phone back on its stand. Her "should know better son" has told her she will melt the phone and do damage to the phone system ! so she is now in a panic. Wife is visiting this afternoon so I told her to say that the ordinary batteries just won't do anything and nothing will be harmed, just put the rechargeables back in.
Now, is this correct ? If ordinary batteries are put in a cordless phone and it is put back on the charging base then it just wont do anything ? Certainly no damage ?
Cheers

With luck, as long as they're still in good condition, the charging circuit in the phone will believe they're fully charged and won't try to charge them any more. But you need to get them out asap as they could overheat; they're certainly not safe to leave in there.
