its only a US court, and not the supreme, though I imagine an American court it going to vouch for an American company as opposed to a Korean one....

Perhaps the Mighty Microsoft will turn around to Apple and say "hey guys, we done this over 10 years ago. We'll see you in court.".

Did you not follow the case much Jack?
See the Sony prototype model, the iphone 4 looks extremely similar in shape to it shows you apple have never copied anything (we can over look the pull down screen from android )

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19377383

Im not saying either are perfect but going for a shape and patenting it for being rectangular... well considering you can take the back cover off the Samsung as you access the battery and micro SD/sim card that way, not really the same design is it?
Then you can look at the phones up to (and not the wonderful picture that apple supplies ) of what phones were looking like when the Iphone was released, not much in it except the iphone was bigger.
I do believe that Samsung have all the rights to appeal on this, but the US patents laws seem to really suck for basic designs, and I do love the bit where apple said that samsung copied their phone (symbol) design (which has been a universal symbol for the last 70+ years).

btw iphone and galaxy look NOTHING like each other, other than it being flat and square with rounded edges. The galaxy hardware beats iphone hands down. I wouldnt have bought a Galaxy if I thought it looked like an Iphone, I would have bought an Iphone. But I didnt, I wanted something customisable, powerful, almost laptop in my pocket.

Tony, you remind me of the Iraqi Defence Minister, nothing to see here. Its obvious that Samsung copied Apple, why the denial?

Carl, you're right, they don't look similar at all.

Just wait until the courts rule on all the Apple patent infringement cases. Samsung might have to make their phones look a bit different, but Apple phones won't be able to connect to the 3G/4G networks any more.

Be a bit surprising if somebody hadn't copied Sony at some point in the past!

Companies are there to make money if someone came along and copied your product and it meant loss at your end. Why wouldn't you sue for damages?

LG have a great case against apple then
Look at the LG KE850, shown before the iphone and released before the iphone and was the first phone with a capacitive touchscreen.

You could go on with this for years, apple were not the first and no doubt they have copied other designs, but this is how industry goes, just look at the cars from the 50's to the 60's to the 70's to the 80's, they all change but look similar.

Tony, if LG had a great case against Apple they would have taken them to court. There's a rather nice infographic floating around that shows just how many companies are suing Apple compared to companies that Apple are suing, ten times as many are suing Apple.

Just suck a Lemon and accept the fact that the rest of us all knew, Samsung imitate, Apple innovate.

All this demonstrates is how much of a mess the patent system is in the US. The big wigs of the big tech giants have even hinted at the fact they are testing the system to destruction, i think they have just accomplished that.

Quite how the jury took two days to follow 109 pages of instruction and decide on answers to 700 specific questions on smartphone patents, these technical questions are beyond the layman, that these people were.

In any case, this is nothing more than a business deal between the two firms, Samsung are never actually going to pay a billion pounds and the losers being us, the consumers

Well said Tim, Steve would agree.

Many of you have been closely following the trial against Samsung in San Jose for the past few weeks. We chose legal action very reluctantly and only after repeatedly asking Samsung to stop copying our work. For us this lawsuit has always been about something much more important than patents or money. It’s about values. We value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. And we do this to delight our customers, not for competitors to flagrantly copy.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the jury who invested their time in listening to our story. We were thrilled to finally have the opportunity to tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than we knew.
The jury has now spoken. We applaud them for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.
I am very proud of the work that each of you do.
Today, values have won and I hope the whole world listens.

You really are a fan boi Jack look beyond and you will see the light
So in 2006 Sony Ericsson produced a prototype that looked like the iphone 4 in shape or did apple copy that shape (remembering the iphone 4 came out in 2009).

The LG KE850 Prada came out 6 weeks before the iphone and was announced before the iphone, it was a 3g phone (the iphone was a 2g device with edge), you could say that this is the first real smart phone, it changed the market, look how much apple's phone looked similar!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LG...tmen%C3%BC.jpg

And note how apple only sued Samsung, have you seen the ZTE devices? Then look at HTC, you cannot compare LG because they were there before Apple same with Sony Ericsson, but apple innovate? please, you must be a sucker to think that.

Carl, you're right, they don't look similar at all.

...and Apple didn't copy Sony in any way shape or form.

The only saving grace for Apple was that Sony had not patented this design. Now Apple owns rectangles with rounded edges, what a great presidence this has set for design. Everyone will now have to patent every shape, curve and angle on such a basic level just so they don't infringe each others design. Not good for the consumer IMO.
