I think the 1600 lumes might be a bit optimistic.

Probably a more accurate description.
In terms of comparison - They burn VERY bright - but do not last as long. Probably looking at 30-40 minutes on full power.

I think CREE LEDs are the best for LEDs for flashlights, I have a Fenix P2D on my keyring which has a single CREE Q5 LED and it is very bright (rated at 180 lumens). The CREE T6 are newer and even brighter and uses less power.

I have an LED Lenser P7 (a more accurate 200 lumens) which is great. Lovely and bright with a massive reach when focussed; perfect for nighttime navigation. Battery wise, I'd be warned off of using both Lithium and rechargeable batteries in them due to the heat they produce which can cause damage. The instructions recommend the same.

If you want a good quality but simple high powered smallish torch, I have a Jetbeam BC25 which I recommend. http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/jetbeam/jetbeam-bc25.html (use discount code CPF at checkout for discount). Not affiliated just satisfied customer

Tread carefully, I don't like the wording on that eBay advert: CREE are the LED chip manufacturer.....they DO NOT make torches. Just the LEDs.
Their LEDs are the dogs danglies, but obviously how good is down to the quality of the torch its fitted into. I've had plenty of "rugged" toches that have great LEDs but the switch or the battery contacts failed.
For that reason....Go for a LED Lenser. IMO one of the best quality torches out there, and yes, they use CREE LED chips. Beware of the fake copies on eBay though.
I have a T series Hocus Focus and a H7 head torch. Both very good. There was a design issue with the early H7 (the wire going from teh battery to the torch), but they have a no quibble warrnty and swapped it for a later revised model no questions asked, even though it was over two years old.
They do guzzle batteries when left on, so use high quality low self-discharge Ni-MH batteries and a proper delta-V peak detect battery charger that can charge individual cells (not pairs).
Uniross Hybrio cells and a Technoline BL700 charger are a good combination for price vs performance.

I bought one of and have to say I'm impressed. The first was returned due to a faulty switch, but the second is very good. Much brighter than an equivalent Maglite that I bought at the same time.
I only use it around the house and car so battery life is not a big issue. I bought the maglite because that has a half power mode which is more useful if out walking.
An advantage of the LEDs is that they don't run the batteries down while not in use. I got fed up having a torch in the car that was always flat when I needed to use it. These should sort that problem.

I got one of these from him the distance is superb. When on strobe I have blinded another cyclist in the day.
You can adjust the beam narrow to wide whether it's a copy or not it is very bright and well made I like the rear led laser one as well

Try these people......
http://www.heinnie.com/
Brilliant service and friendly, phone them up or mail them and ask them any questions.
Dont consider a BULB torch as they are not too bright and eat batteries. Modern flashlights are all LED items.
I just bought one of these

For a small very portable unit it's stunning.
