Beats by Dr Dre headphones
Anyone actually spent that obtuse amount of money on these headphones? They look like a piece of art and as headphones go stunning looking. I like the green and white studio high def ones at £279.99 in HMV but i'd never buy them. My teenage Son thinks they are one of life's essentials and must have them and i've told him no chance.
Is the quality actually worth that amount of money? Like I say i'm not going to buy them but interested to hear from anyone who has. I got myself a pair of Goji on ear headphones today from Currys reduced from £30 to £3.97 and I think the quality is great so beats will be wasted on me

I see a lot a people at the gym I go to wearing the white ones.
How you can have a decent workout while you're wearing a humungous pair of headphones amazes me.

They're the trendy 'in' headphones.
Anyone worth their salt DJ or otherwise with a trained ear will know brands such as Pioneer, Sennheiser, M-Audio etc. are far better. I've used all 3 and compared them to the beats - shocking difference.

I tried some and they sounded good, but really way too powerful for headphones, too much bass and the volume could be turned up very high, personal choice I know but these are like a head based ghetto blaster and I reckon there will be a lot of hearing issues, see a lot of people wearing headphones this big out and about, they look like Murray Walker circa 88.
Not usually into Bose stuff but the Quietcomfort noise cancellers are superb for drowning out ancient 747 engine noise and then playing music, don't think the Beats ones do the noise cancellation. Used to have some Sennheiser, they were brilliant as well.

As above!
When the BBC use Beyer dynamic DT770 pro's in majority of their studios that's good enough for me! (I've not heard better IMO)

I can't help but think of the word '****' when I see a pair. Admittedly when compared to the range that was easily available at their launch they do sound good - if you like a lot of Bass.
I have the best pair of headphones in the world. Bose QC15's. Only because they're second to none in an airplane, I don't think I've worn them anywhere else. I do feel a bit of a dick wearing them as they project 'more money than sence' just as well as a pair of Beats. But then I switch them on when the turbines fire up, and all's well.

I was given a pair by a rep and I like them, but the quality is not as good as the price makes out, that's sound and build quality. I also will never wear them out as they look stupid and I'd probably be twice as likely to be mugged by some little ******.

Just be careful where you buy the Dr Dre headphones from.
Ebay is flooded with fakes at the min especially the Detox version, i had a pair of these fake Detox ones turn up recently and the sound is awful, at first glance they look good visually but if you have a good feel of them you notice things like very thin material on the top headband instead of a nice padded feel etc etc.
Ive just bought a pair of Audio Technica M50 headphones and they are superb quality, the sound they produce is superb and well balanced.

As headphones go, the sound is OK if a little bass heavy. Eldest has a pair and they are OK. Then he told me how much they were. For the quality, i wouldn't pay much over £100 for them.
I've got some cheapo SkullCandy Aviators: http://uk.skullcandy.com/shop/aviator-brown-gold-3324 which are less than half the price and maybe 30% better sound quality. (Of course, sound quality is very subjective).

I have great admiration for any company that managed to circumvent the draconian olympic marketing regulations They are available for €30 on Spanish market stalls

I thought they were pretty decent sound (I like Bass ). Couldn't justify the price tag though, I rarely use headphones anyway.
In the local Curry's Superstore near me they had a display with 3 or 4 pairs connected to iPods that you could listen to.

Considering the amount of people I see wearing original iPod/iPhone earbuds which accoustically are probably the worst performing pieces of crap to have ever gone close to my ears and insult my eardrums. This Dr-Dre branded mass-produced stuff would indicate to me that the majoprity will be sastified if they are used to replace the usual tat.
But audiophile? I seriously doubt it. Amazing what can be done with a passive RC network to makes a bassy pair of headphones for a few pennies. Although the same can be said for Sennheiser and Bose. Two other overpriced brands....but with those two you pay for the name. Here your paying to have a rapper/music producer's name stamped on the side of your head.
And you wil look like a bit of prat wearing them....unless you are a Chinese olmypian/tourist, in which case is bordering on as laughably ridiculous as the current trend for men to wear skiny chinoes that make them look like they are wearing a nappy underneath.
