Pirate software/media - How many of you do it?
on a recent thread i started, a lot about piracy came up. I am curious to know how many of you use pirate software, or download pirated music of films?
This includes streaming films online through illegal websites too.
I don't. Never have downloaded illegal music. Have watched the odd film online, but don't anymore.
As for software, i have downloaded a copy of protools once. This was only as i had an exam on it and could not afford the full version at the time.
I have since deleted it.
So how many of you use it?
Does anybody think it will ever go away?

I remember the days of Napster and downloading all sorts as a school kid. I find personally as a DJ choons from Track It Down or Beatport are of a better standard than anything illegal downloaded. Things like mashups or rare vinyl rips are hard to come across so I'm guilty in that respect. Films? Not really a film person and go to the cinema or borrow off mates.

Since getting Tivo, nope I havent downloaded anything
The only stuff I did donwload was tv programmes that made it more convenient for me to watch when I wanted to and not when the TV told me I had to
Tivo has given me that option now so no longer need to download

LOL @ this thread. Effectively: 'Are you a criminal? Why not own up on a public forum.'
Well not me. Nope. Never. I've never broken the speed limit, either. Or farted in a lift.

Got rid of Sky last month, so have been flat out being illegal lately watching stuff I haven't paid for whilst using reminder letters from the TV Licencing Authority to light cigars.

You can compact them into bricks and use them to heat the house during winter. You can be all warm whilst watching a pirate of Mad Men on your illegal TV.

I also littered today, I missed the bin with an attempted 3 pointer, pretended I didn't notice. Hopefully the CCTV didn't notice.

opertunisticly copied?
so in other words yes you have pirated stuff. just cos you havn't downloaded it doesn't mean its not the same thing.
I highly doubt anyone has never had something they shouldn;t have had.

I try before I buy sometimes, but mainly buy software as I like to support the manufacturer if they make good software.
I do find the prices of pro audio a tad steep! £3k + etc for one VST!!!

We used to catch the bus into Oxford and go to the Game shop. Buy an Amiga game and once home, spend the next few days breaking it and making a copy. Following Saturday, on the bus again, to game again but this time claim the game did not work and have it replaced with a different game. Week 3, same bus, same shop but different worker and claim the same.
Did this for weeks before we got banned.
Having recently hooked up our Sky HD box to the internet for Anytime+ its actually saved me money as I haven't bought a Bluray for months. Don't really need to pirate stuff.

ooooh. I can see letters going out to certain people admitting theft here. lol
if you want to be "technical" on the piracy side of things, every time you go visiting a web site, you are pirating the web-sites graphics, sounds, animations and even video as your web browser saves a copy into the browser cache, therefore stealing.

Technically that's one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this subject.

I'm like someone who did coke once or twice and that is it, obviously not as bad as a full time addict or dealer.

Have you ever laughed at someone in a lift? I have a friend I've known all my life that I can't go anywhere with. If we're in a lift with a stranger, we'll start laughing for no real reason other than we laugh in these situations. It's riduculously immature and embarrassing at the age of 25, but it happens EVERY time. Even worse if they have something obviously wrong with them, but it is physically impossible not to laugh.
