I'm downloading so much **** right now, I'm tempted to ring the BBC and say I've got an idea for a new channel and all the programmes are already on my hard drive. Hopefully I'll have schedule draw up by supper! Within 3months of the channel being on air, its mind blowing success will see me soaring to the top of the BBC were I will become chairman and they'll give me a free TV Licence but i'll say say, "naw, your alright mate, i've got the INTERNET!"

I've a mate who laughs when he's speaking with or is around people that have learning difficulties. He's a good guy, somebody with whom I play badminton and have done a bit of business; bright and financially independent, but for some reason if somebody rocks-up with eyes that are bit too close together he begins to smirk. The problem is he knows I know he's going to laugh (owing to an incident a few years back at a meeting) and can sense my expectation; he'll look at me (knowing I can poker face) and then he's off. He has to quickly make a joke, but it's quite clear that his laughter is disproportionate to the quality of the gag; "nice day" whilst it's raining outside and he'll have tears rolling down his eyes as I keep my poker face just within his periphery. He does it with deaf people, too.
"If somebody rocks up with eyes that are a bit too close together"
Classic.
I know that exact moment of having to make a joke to try and counter it.

Good times.
We used to catch the bus into Oxford and go to the Game shop. Buy an Amiga game and once home, spend the next few days breaking it and making a copy. Following Saturday, on the bus again, to game again but this time claim the game did not work and have it replaced with a different game. Week 3, same bus, same shop but different worker and claim the same.
Did this for weeks before we got banned.
Having recently hooked up our Sky HD box to the internet for Anytime+ its actually saved me money as I haven't bought a Bluray for months. Don't really need to pirate stuff.

Xcopy v3.1 the holy grail of obtaining games for the Amiga when you had no cash as you blew it all on a pack of 50 blank floppy disks.
Yeah, I was 14 at the time, so lock me up.

Copyright laws are so far removed and outdated in our society, that they make little sense, but it doesn't make him wrong.

It is a point.
Although its pretty moot, as if the copyright holder has hosted it, it will automatically be copied and stored by any computer or caching server that looks at that website. Bit like ripping a CD to an iPod. Although on picture hosting websites I think there's some overriding Terms of Use agreements that should allow for this (i.e by uploading pictures you agree that we can do this or that etc.).
Hell, even our BMW stores music on its internal hard drive...put in the CD, or USB flash drive and it'll automatically copy it. IIRC it can also copy (backup) the stored music onto a flash drive too! Technically not legal at all.

No, i am not telling you that or said anything of the sort. You said it was the dumbest thing you have heard on the subject, when in fact Carl was correct.

"if you want to be "technical" on the piracy side of things, every time you go visiting a web site, you are pirating the web-sites graphics, sounds, animations and even video as your web browser saves a copy into the browser cache, therefore stealing."
Now, bearing in mind that websites are published in order for people to freely view them do you want to start again.

Edit: you are already missing the point, we are talking about the fact computers store, for later retrieval, if a user wants, copyrighted content, this is an automatic process which most users are not even aware of.

We are talking about the technical legal aspects of copyright law, so no, i am quite correct.
