I did that coming off a moto x bike my wrist has never been the same since. the pin they put in stops the wrist from going all the way back as the bone has grown over the top of the pin hard to explain
they said they can re do it but I would need to have 6 weeks off and we can't afford that

Fractured Scaphoid absolute nightmare to diagnose at times, usually a fall on the outstretched hand as they say..
Well that's a shed load of taxpayers money for what is usually an avoidable injury in the young and fit......go on then, how did you do it ??

Quad bike slid into a rut on the right, a large rut, I probably hit the gas to keep moving and the handlebars hit my left hand like a sledgehammer, enough to knock me off the bike trapping my foot under the frame. I levered it off my foot, pretty sure that my foot was damaged, but it was fine. I thought it was a sprained wrist but pressing the bone was a clue as was feeling sick on a ****ing great day.
I had dinner, rode the 15k out of the bush, slept on it, took the decision to fly home, jumped on a plane to the other hemisphere and received treatment way beyond my expectations the minute I landed.
As for money, I think I was good value. Every single member of staff was lovely, i hope they enjoyed the day as much as I did, we were all getting paid, happy days. Cant wait for the dressing to come off and the techno plaster to go on.
As for the iPad, SIM needed a phone call and my phone is a small iPad I didn't see the need. The phone lasted the day.
Thanks Stoke Mandeville, and thanks Oil for making it happen, and thanks Steve for making sympathy easy. And thanks Chuck Norris for my skills. One more, Codeine which I think is working.

Like all these things, quads aren't inherently dangerous or scary, but they make the stakes a lot higher if/when something does go wrong. Same as riding road bikes. Very high stakes but worth the risk (at least at the time) to some.
... real men, Les. You've had a fair few bikes yourself, have you not?

A good friend of mine had a brief blast on a racing quad a few years ago without a helmet. All round talented driver/rider when it comes to anything with an engine but pushes hard all the time. Was flat out on this quad and hit a rut, making him lose grip of the handlebars. Ended up flying off it and hitting a cherry picker (it was in a quarry) pretty much head on. Cracked skull and smashed knee, airlifted to Glasgow southern general and lucky to be alive. Hospital staff said that if one of the guys there at the time hadn't held a towel against his head to stop the blood coming out, he wouldn't have made it.

I still enjoy riding them but don't push it quite as much on the bends any more!
