They want £15.32. I don't want to give them £15.32 as that is a lot of money.

Your time must be cheap. Unlocking, especially keeping up with updates takes a lot of time.

Pay the money and be satisfied it was unlocked properly and not using some dodgy method that'll cause you further headaches in the long run

Jailbreaking does not unlock the iphone unless you flash a dodgy baseband at the sametime. Doing that also blocks your ability to apply IOS updates in the future from itunes.

The only 100% way is via the phones original carrier, they notify apple who then update their servers. The next time you connect to itunes after this is done the phone is automatically unlocked forever.

I have a Subaru, but I'm not trying to unlock that, it is an iPhone The other car paid for itself as it gave me a job.

Presently on hold with service provider to actually cancel the contract at the end of its 24 months due to not getting signal at home for the last 11 months since I moved.

Vodafone previously unlocked Blackberrry for free at the end of the contract.

As said by others, if you want a proper unlock you'll need to go through the network / carrier. 15.32 is pretty cheap, double it and that's what I'll have to pay to get my 3GS unlocked here in Canada.

The carrier here, Robbers, sorry, Rogers, has been trying to contact me to persuade me to enter into another three year contract (yup, that's the norm here, and PAYG isn't the same either, you put $20 on, it'll expire in a month if you don't use it, so you need to keep putting money on, not how I remember it in the UK when I had PAYG - was over 10 years ago though, so may have changed)

Does annoy me that I have to pay to unlock the phone, as over the past three years I've paid far more than the full cost of unlocked phone, but of course they claim that it was subsidized when you purchased it thing.

33+7 min phonecalls later and it is cancelled, have requested unlock and PAC. If as happened last time I did this the contract was cancelled early and I was charged an early disconnection then an emergency reconnection then another early disconnection fee. It took six months to sort out the billing nightmare that ensued!

Now I need a really nice priced (since I am clearly very tight indeed ) Orange or T-mobile SIM only contract. 250 MB, 50+ mins and 50 texts would be enough, some kind of Quidco deal.

Quidco/Orange Dolphin 7: 12 month SIM only £7 per month with £50 cashback. 250 MB, 500 texts, 125 mins. £34 for the year if Quidco works.
