I wait for the new diesel tax on motorists by the Government to "discourage" the use of diesel.

this already happens in certain EU countries

they have been discouraging diesels for years thru higher import duties and tax

What he said^^^^

The report doesn't actually say much about diesel fumes, just "exhausts" and it's our media giving it the slant.
And they do THAT for the government

Indeed, a bit like [the proposal to] increasing the VED on low CO2 cars to recover lost revenue now that more of us are in smaller cars

I reckon they will end up going the same way as the wagons have now and fitting tanks for"adblue" ,
I'm still waiting to see what the adverse effects are for that stuff .............

I suspect so, though I would hazard a guess at diesel being worse as it's less refined

Benzine in unleaded petrol is known carcinogen and in diesel exhaust fumes it is the particulates that could cause cancer. I'm not sure how these claims stack up since all new diesels now have particulate filters for some years so the particulates are almost non-existent and doesn't say how carcinogenic they are. However, you only have to hear the words "compelling scientific evidence" and a "UK Government department will carefully consider the report" to know that the writing is on the wall!!

As long as my Diesel keeps up the almighty power of snapping my head back and re-arranging my internal organs due to its rocket ship acceleration, I shall pay whatever it takes to maintain those thrills.

55mpg whilst overtaking Impreza's is sweeeeeeeeet

Modern diesels have a filter in the exhaust system to prevent the particulates from becoming airborne fron the exhaust gases.

The ECU will cause the engine to run in a fashion when necessary to burn the particulates trapped in the exhaust system.
