Default Late wages....?

My date of pay is the 5th of each month. Obviously the 5th is a bank holiday, so i believe i should be getting paid today? I haven't been paid as of yet..

Does anybody know the laws on this?

Will probably be the first working day after that.
Call your bank, they will say if you have outstanding monies going in.

I always thought it had to be before though as otherwise it would be late?

I have direct debits going out and they will bounce as he manually pays the money in to everyones accounts at some time on the 5th.

I get paid on the 27th of each month. And if it falls on a Sat, Sun, or any holiday, then the money gets paid in after midnight on the closest previous workday. And thus far, in 24 years with the same company, without fail.

I agree that it's 'wrong' to get paid after, rather than before. As you say, it could cause issuses with direct debits, standing orders, etc...

once, when the wages were a day or 2 late the company paid anybody's charges from DD'd not going out etc

Always before, and if it did not go in they would pay you in petty cash.

Think It's covered by the Employment rights act 1996, they have to have paid you by the due date......

My daughter has just got an NHS job paid monthly in arrears.

But she joined in middle of month and missed the "cycle" so she will have to wait six weeks before she receives anything. She thought she would have some money for this weekend but she has now had to cancel a sailing trip with mates which is a sod. Bit rough I thought?

I think in law there is an 8 week start up cycle to get wages sorted and the particulars signed.....

NHS owes me about £14k in back pay for the last 2 and half years..........they can be hopeless, believe me

Tell me about it!

Is there anywhere i can find the laws on pay? Because if by law i have to have my pay by that date then i'm going to see my boss tomorrow and get my money....

He always does this sort of thing. Been paid late in the past before. And apparently he's docked peoples wages when he feels the tills are down but doesn't tell anybody..... If he felt that people are robbing him or not using the tills properly he should get the evidence and go to police/small claims court.

He's a ***** at the best of times!

any good company should pay before, BUT some dont no law you have a date, and if you look on the 5th it may be there due to BACS transfers.

the banks on the otherhand take it well before the date, all my DD go out 6th but have gone out today 2k insta gone

As others have said it should be there earlier.
However depending on who you bank with can also make a difference.
I'm with Natwest, the money always goes in when it should, but doesn't always show as a balance until the banks next working day, so it could be there mate, just not showing

Also another little trick that the Natwest do, on the first day back they process all the payments before the credits, so I'm quite easily able to go overdrawnd before they credit my account with a payment

Had many an argument over this one

Subaruturbo 18

IIRC, The laws on being paid go back to the Truck Acts and have been updated since, the law is very strict on not having anything taken from your wages apart from the Tax / NI etc.

This is to make sure the state gets their share of your cash first and anything taken from your wages without written consent or a court order is a real no-no.

CAB and govt websites are full of the rights you have about somebody taking money from your wages, simply because they want your money for taxes first.

He can't dock your pay, by law, as and when it suits him. No reason at all. And usually, most Companies pay early if the pay day falls on a weekend or Bank Holiday.
