Default Locked out my car, any tips ?

Hi guys,

I've made the very silly mistake of locking myself out my car

Not my Subaru, its a 306 estate.

The car was open, keys on the seat, went to open the passenger door and the car decided it would like to lock itself, thats French electrics for you

Anything that can be done that doesn't involve breaking the window/locks ?

Laugh away

Getting the spare key?

Sorry, not much help. I've stripped a few 306's, and always found it a bugger to get the door locks off, as they have a shield. So the old coat hanger trick won't work. Plus, depends how its locked, because they have deadlocks too.
Best bet is source a new window, then smash the one on the car!

Guys I know some idiots have joined here in the past few years, but give me some credit, I did manage to come up with the idea of using the spare key myself

Problem is all 3 are on the one keyring, in the car

Nicely caught

Might be my best bet, is wedging the door out so I've got a gap at the top a bad idea ?

can't you get it between the door and window

but yes, if not you can try and gently prise the door/window surround out

edit -- the AA once broke into my old MK2 Golf in roughly 30 secs using this method

Is it a three door?

Someone else maybe able to answer this. But if it is a 3 door, it maybe possible to remove the rear window or boot glass without damage.

But if its bonded it needs a windscreen specialist to cut the adhesive and rebond it.

We did this on my old Escort many years ago...The rear quarter glass was only held in by the rubber seals (no bonding), so I just pried out the seal and out came the glass.

PS: if you decide to brick it. Do a door window as they are usually cheaper to replace. Also cover the glass with sticky tape (masking tape, duct tape or parcel tape etc), to hold most of the glass shards together and help stop it making so much of a mess.

(some glass will always fall into the door cavity anyway and rattle when you crank the bass up on the speakers ).

Cost me £50 years ago when a mate helpfully locked my door for me .. The fella used a balloon on the door frame and then a wire thing to get the keys ..

Use it as an opportunity to get out of a French car.

Alternatively burn it? Door should be ok to open then?? :-)

Has it got central locking?

The AA got into my scooby a while back using a clever method which I'll PM to you if yours has AND can be activated without the ignition being on

The coppers might be able to help you with their collection of master keys.

Auto locksmith. My brother locked his keys in the boot of his Jag a while back, they were there and in the car in about 30 mins.

They rushed him for about £150 though.

Best bet is bend the door frame like others have said and reach for your keys, and then the frame can be bended back into shape, thats what i would do in this situation

Well, I have done it twice in my life time. Once it was ex-mister's fault. We were away from home where we didn't have acess to the spare key. We were to do some work in next hour, but in the process of offloading, the barsturd key got locked in. Anyhow, RAC came out and somehow opened the boot to let us in.

When I did it to my car, I called RAC again, and they sorted me out. They did what hodgy 02's #13 says. Job was done in a minute or two; leaving me looking very embarrassed for my stupidity.

Shame you don't have an AA or RAC cover, Steph. Perhaps you have shattered the window by now. Its all go, eh.

You have my sympathies. I would phone up Autoglass or similar and find out which is the cheapest window to replace - driver's?? - and then it's a brick. Possibly the cheapest option.

I keep meaning to get "locked out" house and car insurance but never get around to it

Might be worth a call to a local Peugeot dealer???

Personally I wouldn't start bending things.

Many years ago I was couriering in central London. Came to deliver a package, parked up and saw a group of people around a Capri trying to open the door. I walked past, into the building, up in the lift to the 4th floor, got out, delivered the package, back in the lift, down, out and they were still fiddling around. I walked up, said "here, I'll do it", did my thing in 5 seconds, opened the car door, walked off, got on bike & rode off...

The look on their faces
