Default eBay / Paypal Fraud * Learn from my mistake *

Well I just got well and truly *****d over on eBay/Paypal.

To cut a long story shory, I sold my TV on eBay, as it was huge I made it buyer collection only, winning bidder paid via Paypal and collected the TV.

The same day Paypal take the money back from me, and say the Paypal account used to pay for the TV was flagged as an 'Unauthorised Transaction'.

Called Paypal, they say you're not covered as a seller if you allow the person to collect the item from you, so there's nothing they can do.

Looked into it online and found this...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012...afe-protection

Looks like a common fraud, so I've lost my TV & the money and Paypal couldn't care less.

So please learn from my error, if you sell anything on eBay and it's too big to post always insist on cash on collection.

Gutted...

PayPal is a joke for sellers. I would never use it for items worth more than £50.

Should of done cash on collection since they were coming to collect anyways.

Surely the police can be involved, this blow collected the tv, eBay will have to give hs details up and then go round to investigate

Wouldnt let me back in till i told them last 4 digits of my debit card etc. I finished up ringing them and sorting it out over the phone eventually. To55ers !!

Had same thing a year or so ago with a gearbox, bloke was a member on here and said he had funds available in PayPal etc so I accepted the payment and let him collect as he was desperate for the box, he went home and opened an item not received case and got his money back, I had all the emails etc as proof and forwarded these to PayPal but they didn't care at all.

MrSimpson, if you go onto ebay you can request the buyers contact details, they will send you the buyers recorded address and contact number. et voila, go round and get your tv back.

This. I managed to get seller details once but if you can do it the other way, I'd be round there and even if I didn't take the TV I'd putt a bloody hammer through it.

Gutted for you, but these folk expect people not to do anything and they get away with it and do it again and again,

would get there address from ebay and report it to the police, if nothing gets done then i would be taking it further with my trusty bat,!!!

Gutted for you, same happened to me before. Still get angry thinking about it.
Thing is, you HAVE TO list paypal as a form of payment, and paypal don't protect collection only items. So if you are listing a collection only item, you have to except paypal, so their (ebay/paypal) terms are contradicting.

Also, to the people saying go round there etc, most of, if not all of the time, they have hacked someones paypal account through phishing etc, so the payment details are nothing to do with the scammer anyway.

I do this too, state in your listing cash on collection only and if the winner pays by paypal refund and tell them why, i.e. Paypal protection issues with no proof of delivery

Yes the eBay user is claiming his account was hacked, and it makes sense - his details are in Scotland, I'm in London, and the guys that came round to get the TV probably don't even know where or what Scotland is...

Kev_turbo I told the guy who I thought was the buyer that I wanted cash, he threatened me with a report to eBay - who in turn would close my account, as I was in the middle of selling my Scooby on eBay at the time, stupidly I let him pressure me into the sale.

I feel like such a sucker, I dusted the TV, gathered the instructions and everything and even helped them to the car with it.

Feel so stupid.

The problem is the Police say they can't help until I become the victim, in their eyes, the hacked eBay user is now the victim, until Paypal give him the money back, then I become the victim and they can help me!? WTF but that's what they're saying.

I was so gutted because we called them about 20 minutes after these guys drove off, we took their Reg Number: PN51 FRK so the Police did have a window to stop these guys with my TV in the car. But they wouldn't hear it.

Gutted.
