Default Treadmill?

I`m contemplating buying a treadmill but not sure what to look for I want a motorized one but that`s basically as far as I`ve got My budget is around £200 so it`s gonna be a used one...as new ones at that price are mainly unbranded so I wouldn`t really trust the quality. Anyone got any ideas?

Buy some trainers, and run outside.

Cycling, running and cross training are just so boring without actually moving.

Agreed Dave, but more than once a week on concrete kills my ankles. Treadmills give a degree of bounce that is helps make it a little easier on these old joints

Even if I run on a treadmill I get swollen knees. Hence cycling. Running just does not agree with me!

So yeah, I get that.

I would love a treadmill. Running whilst watching tv would suit me down to the ground

We are on our second treadmill,

work out where its going to go, depending on the model, they can take up quite a bit of space even when folded!

You need one that can adjust the incline 5% is usually the standard, and see if it has multi programmes, or a programme you can set yourself

Ours get used on average 3 times a week and can be out and set up within 5 minutes

Mart

They noisy . Took us some time to figure out what the rhythmic thud coming front next door might be, after that it was obvious every time she was on it.( about an hour a day )

I just thought why not go out in the open air at no extra expense

£200 won't get much. What speed do you run at now? I would say you want one that goes to at least 8mph, otherwise you will end up being frustrated that you can't run faster! This one only goes to 12kph which is 7.5mph I think.

And as for watching TV at the same time, you have to have the volume up very loud just to make out what is going on. Something to consider if you do not live in a detached property.

As already mentioned, buy a decent cross trainer. You get just as good a workout without jarring your knees and pissing off the neighbours.

Then when you really do feel like running, go outside. Nice weather coming up so would be a shame to run indoors.

Something like this will make you 'feel the burn' after a good 30 minute session.

treadmills are a waste of time as the only exercise you actually do is bringing your foot forward as the treadmill does the rest....just get decent pair of properly fitted/sized runners an ipod with some good tunes and get out running.
start with easy 30 min walk 3-4 times a week and then build up to a slow plod then a decent run.you will be surprised how much decent trainers help.

These things are boring enough without depriving yourself of something to watch aswell. Spare room, dvd box-set, episode a night. Sorted.

Its all fine and well saying just go out for a run, but a lot of the time its cold, wet and dark. Stuff that.

Get a rowing machine far better workout overall as it exercises your upper and lower body, plus if you suffer from ankle problems/knees you need a low impact exercise, running is high impact.

£200.00 isn't much though if you're after something good, which i assume you are, this site usually has some sales on equipment..

I would agree. It's quite a long time since I've been on a treadmill, but if memory serves, it's nowhere near as good as a cross trainer. This is mine,

Check out the Argos site as there are quite a few in your price range.

I`ve had cross trainers in the past and ended up selling them! As for going out running...nooo not built to be seen bouncing round outside A treadmill is the only thing I`ve never tried...never been a runner so I thought I`d try something different. A lot of the ones I`ve looked at are `bouncy`, if you know what I mean, so less impact than running on concrete plus if I get knackered I don`t have to worry about making it home

Personally I wouldn't ever want to waste time by doing cardio indoors, running is not my thing but get a bike and find some nice quiet woods , you can have fun and actually enjoy yourself while getting fitter. Life is too short to spend it so much of either at work or at home in front of the TV.

Exactly. I had one of those little trampolines (before the kids put it outside to use it to jump onto the big trampoline, then the dog wrecked it ).
I could jog on that for hours providing there was decent viewing on the tv.
