Default Bloody late night roadworks

So last night I did a airport run.

And they decide to shut teh M6 to M42south turn off.....from ALL motorway directions.

Basically this made it IMPOSSIBLE to get to BHX airport via any motorway network north of Birmingham.

There were signs saying follow diversions, but WHAT diversion? Just a yellow sign where the turning was blocked off and then nothing more afterwards.

Tried M42 north and tried to double back south, nope. That tried to forced me on to the M6 to Coventry (and anyone who has done that mistake will know thats a 20minute detour as its 10miles to the next junction (and another 10 to come back).

I ended up going back from wence I came to get off at Castle Bromwich (which I originally considered when seeing the signs, but I saw a follow diversion sign, so thought I'd stick with it). By the looks of it I wasn't the only one as I went past load of cars on the motoway meadering at 30-40mph with people poking their sat navs

I'm writing a snobby letter the H.A. as seeing they blocked almost all access to the airport/m42 from the north, they should have posted diversions on to the A452

I mean, all they had to do was modify the overheads signs saying M42S closed. divertion to J5 M6. Follow A452". Its dual carriageway, and empty, so why didn't they sodding do that? Instead of putting hap-harzard yellow follow diversion signs that led to nowhere and having the gantry say "M42 S access closed".

They also didn't inform/update the live traffic information properly, so those with smart satnav with live traffic data (me) were sent into the same trap which could have been easily avoided.

Idiots.

And the public sector still want their higher wages and protected pesnion? They can royally f**k off. We've wasted £billions of public money putting in these fancy information gantries and interlinking a live traffic system...yet when they are really needed they don't bother to put them to good use

Thats better.

Now to paint that front door

Couldn't you have come off at jnc 9 M42 and past Hams Hall A446 that way.

Too much roadworks at the moment, a huge stretch of the M62 is the same at the moment on both sides and closed at night, however there is only workmen working every other 10 mile, so there is no need for the whole stretch to be coned off.

Early this week we set off for what should have been a 1hr 05min on satnav, even with the 50mph restricted aver speed camera stretch it took 1hr 45min

Feel for anyone that needs to commute daily at the moment.

Roadworks cannot be avoided but they do half-arsed cheap and nasty repair work. You know in 2 or 3 years it will be dug up again. Hell some of the repairs the council does last months.
