advice on re-gaining a private plate

Default advice on re-gaining a private plate

recently sold a car to a member on here who was recently banned. problem being it still had my private plates on it and required some trust for all to happen as it should. he turned out to be a real bad un.....

is there any recourse? i notified the dvla at that time. they never even bothered to my letters...

once the logbook owner name is changed you have had it....what was plate worth

Car was sold with the plate on, it's gone I'm afraid.

its gone, if it was sold on car and papers signed, as we all know the member in question was jimmyinrugby and you were aware of what a **** he was before doing the deal you surely only have yourself to blame as you trusted him.

I did the same with my first Impreza. Did a deal with the buyer who actually paid an extra £100 for the plate for me to repay him when the papers came back. He never did it and I lost the plate.

I think its along the lines of the plate belongs to the car whilst on the car - not to you.

yep, unless you have it written somewhere that the plate did not come with the car and he is to return it then nothing you can do.

If you do have something that proves he should have handed it back you might be able to take him to small claims for the value of the plate with an option to drop the case if he signs it back over.

just speculating though.

If it's not on retention, then it's on the car. If you don't own the car anymore, then you have lost the registration.
