According to the BBC article it's nothing to do with the price of fuel, it's about the T&C's which apply to the tanker drivers.

ok so if we have a fuel strike, what happens...fuel goes up due to supply and demand.
Tax gets cut and something else increases as the money they take from fuel needs to be provided to enable them to pay for all their trips etc (TBH none is spent on things like the roads is it)

Either way we are screwed.

When the fuel duty hits doubt we'll ever see it below £1.50 a litre which is £6.81 a gallon Only way to "hurt" them is to stop using fuel or minimize it ... horse & cart anyone?

Don't transport companies pay an annual fee to then pay less at the pump?

At £1.40 per Ltr, we pay about 59 p tax 23 p VAT, meaning the fuel cost is only 58 p.

What happened to us only using one company for a while - say Tesco for a week. Then using BP for a week. This should force other companies to drop their prices to compete.

Our work is going to struggle with diesel prices - we had a massive overspend last year, and this year the budget is being cut -

It's the duty and VAT which is the bulk of the cost.

The Gov is so crafty it even makes you pay VAT on the duty.

The level of taxation in the country is obscene. But then so is spending. Until we get away fron this entitlement, living-in-cloud-cuckoo-land mentality, nothing will change. The necessity of spending to actually be paid for by taxation is something a hell of a lot of people don't seem able to understand. These people - probably the majority - expect more out of the system than is put in. It's as if the government is supposed to do some kind of witchcraft, augmenting the nation's wealth, in order to keep them happy.

It's almost like we're living beyond our means, borrowing sooo much to pay for all the things we can't afford that to repay this vast cost means we're taxed to the hilt

Yes, ok, it was stating the obvious. Still, there's many a debate where it could do with being pointed out.
