Olympics
Anyone else sick of it already?
Everywhere you look there are adverts on TV and the obligatory 'diversity' too.
It's should be called the 'diversity games'. Propoganda on a scale with the Berlin, Moscow, and Beijing games.
I'm sick of seeing the same faces selling everything from credit cards to cereal.
And they even took any red out of the kit.

Every other country would be getting behind it.
I work with a lot of US folk, and they are always asking if I am getting excited about it, and the Jubilee celebrations.
We are such a bunch of miserable gits.
I've got my tickets anyway!

shameful, shameful waste of public money.
run by those with no real attachment to those in this country struggling to get by.
same as the fcking ridiculous common wealth games coming up here - as soon as we hit difficult economic times, spastic ideas like this should be dropped.
in times of prosperity then maybe - but its just living outside our means.
complete and utter embarassment!!

Spot on. I can't wait for them. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Olympics have meant investment is areas of London that would never have got it otherwise, thousands of jobs, the renovation of the underground - And, there is every possibility they will turn a profit.

pete i dont beleive they do, over the complete cost of the project,
how is income generated calculated, and who gets the income is more my point.
income from tourism giving a real world economic benefit should be from foreign monies being spent in the country. moving moving around the south east i just dont see as being of benefit to the entire country.

Unfortunately we had bid and won during times or prosperity.
Hindsight is a great things to have.
Our country should not always consider the poor people. The middle class tax payer also wants to benefit by public spending. Building cheap houses for poor people does me no good at all.

but davy when the bid was placed "in times of prosperity" the cost was put at 2.4 billion - its now 9.2-ish billion and thats in our tougher financial climate.
i agree its easy to look back and pass comment, but as developments happened someone should have noticed and called it a day imo.
the whole country as individuals is having to make hard cutbacks, but our government is not? they are recouping revenue by hitting everyone harder.
in a buisness scenario, if you want to borrow money for an investment its unlikley to be given unless a decent return is proved likley. to add to that either this money is a loan, with interest, or its taken from revenue and a loan is needed to cover the costs of services where the money has been taken from.
i do like the olyimpics and other sporting events, just dont beleive its lavish set up is required - and when it was realised our position was not great, shouldve been either scrapped or cut back - as everyone else has had to do.
just my opinion
