If you read any of the reports, white papers or review publications it's all to do with the HM Gov not having the required competencies needed to properly define the scope of, or manage its contracts.

Wow, the vibe in this thread, you can really get a real sense pride and joy behind this Olympics and level of support and backing for this country's athletes. Makes me proud to be part of Great Britain. The hosting nations have always benefited from hosting the Olympics, I mean just take a look at Greece.

Judging by hotel prices in London, approximately 4x the 'normal' rate, there will be plenty of companies making a killing when the foreign spectators roll into town.
Those earnings will the be passed onto the Eastern Europeans who work at those establishments.
What's not to like

i must be too stupid then, i genuinely hope it screws london as they seem to think they`re the centre of the universe. what with taxi drivers threatening to strike... tube drivers wanting paid extra to do their jobs cause they might get a bit busy... it wont benefit anyone north of watford imo.

Simply don't like the Olympics regardless of what country it's in. I will be avoiding as much of it as I possibly can! Not moaning one bit - thread started on a public BBS which people comment on is how this place works and you appear to be moaning about other people's opinions

What's happened in this country in the past, world cup people being told they can't fly the England flag on vehicles because it offends ethnic minority,WW2 veteran being told he can't fly the Union Jack in his garden,Armed police at airports being told they can't wear a tiny little Union Jack badge in support of our forces.British Soldiers being spat at when they came home for leave and being called murderers.I don't feel very British because we have been discouraged to be proud of being British,i feel like a foreigner in my own country. And i get the feeling that the Nation is fed up with London having everything. Now all of a sudden the GOV want the people of this country to be suddenly proud of who we are and get behind the Olympics.I'm proud of our Forces is about all what's left.
And the National anthem should be Rule Britannia or Land of hope and glory
The only good thing that's in it for me is,it may be a good excuse to go and buy a new panasonic plasma tv,

Anyone else sick of it already?
Everywhere you look there are adverts on TV and the obligatory 'diversity' too.
It's should be called the 'diversity games'. Propoganda on a scale with the Berlin, Moscow, and Beijing games.
I'm sick of seeing the same faces selling everything from credit cards to cereal.
And they even took any red out of the kit.

The real problem is the feeling by each country holding them that they have to put on a bigger and more impressive show than went before. That really is totally unnecessary, it is the sporting competition which is of importance and the spirit in which the games are held.
All this "grand show" which they insist they have to put on is a waste of the money it costs and as was said, eventually becomes boring and defeats the whole object. The opening and closing ceremonies are a case in point.
With all that in mind, I think it was stupid of us to bid to hold them because of the enormous expense involved at a time when our economy was known to be suffering and getting worse because of the government's policies in general. It was all done purely for political motives.
I look forward to seeing the sporting side of the games, but I regret the cost of it all.
I they go along with the order by the prats over the water that our athletes should wear a Euro type badge I shall do my pieces!

If it was just track and field I would be more interested. Olympic golf, football, BMX, paper airplane throwing, it's mad. Too big, too self important.
At least FIFA have never hid their greed.

It's saturated with ugly commercialism though Les. It's become an advertising event with a vast sprawling competition of unknown sports to support it.
