Default Water rates?

What sort of money are we talking, NOT on a meter?

I'm asking because we pay for our DRINING water to Anglisan, and for our SEWAGE to Severn-Trent.

The combined amount payable this year will be £622.15

It occurs to me that each company is charging me big money: MORE than , say half the normal price, each saying that THEIR bit is the most expensive.

Done the research.

To go all Anglian, (water and sewearge charges), would be £9 cheaper.
To go all Severn-Trent would be £40 DEARER.

Roll on being able to choose your supplier.........

Oh, and it's not economical to go metered supply, with two lads living at home, one of whom works as a plater on a set of coke ovens.

If I wasn't on a meter my rates would be £624 pa both sewerage and water through Welsh water.

I'm on a meter, and even with 4 kids (two teenagers) myself and the wife I only pay circa £420pa! (give or take £20) As near as makes no odds a £200pa saving!
Mind you our house has a 7litre p/min restrictor on the water supply and dual flush toilets which helps somewhat!

Is that metered? Or off the Rateable Value?

Band "C" can have different Rateable Values, ours is £301.

Everyone should be on a meter, why shouldn't you pay for what you use?

I completely agree.

Give thanks that you are not paying to South West Water. They are the most expensive in the land.

I "think" you can try a meter for a year and if it works out no good for you , you can revert to your old method.

I'm pretty certain that with Anglian, once it's in, it's in.

Water companies don't really like putting them into older property's anymore, you have to really hound them to do it - in Oxfordshire anyway. They have realised that customers will generally be much better off with a meter, it's not so good for the water company though as customers bills actually drop!

As has already been mentioned, some companies allow you to try it out for awhile, how easy it would be to get them to come back & remove it, i don't know.

We changed to meter a few years ago .
On rates it was about 900 per year .Tried meter for 12 months and it worked out about 600 i think .Kept the meter .family of four although we dont have baths much we use the shower .

They dont take the meter back out they just charge the rateable value if you decide against the meter charge system .The next person to buy your house will automatically go to metered water though irc .

There's no way I'm going to a meter. How could I possibly manage to rinse the road outside my house for a hundred yards in each direction four times a day, keep my Killer-Whale exhibition pool topped up and maintain my business selling a million litres of "Pennine Nectar" bottled water per year, if I had to pay for it?
