Default Insulation: does anyone know?

Whether it HAS to go under wiring, or can it go OVER the wiring?
It's a small loft in our outbuilding.
TIA.

Don't think it matters, under and over in various places in our loft. Would end up being a major re-wiring job if it all had to go under or over. Don't think the companies that supply and fit loft insulation would have a particularly easy time of it otherwise.

That's what I thought, but a Google search came up with that answer, and, on another thread, the EXACT opposite: under only.

Hey-ho, over it goes.

I thought it had to go under unless the cable is armoured which is most unlikely in a loft. Reasoning is that the cables can easily be seen rather than cut into or pulled/caught by anyone working in the loft space.

I may well stand to be corrected.

But would the same not apply to the same cable nside a tight plastic conduit buried under plaster? Etc?

If it's a lighting ring main, the wiring is likley to be over rated for the current so the additional insulation is likley to have little effect on the resistance.

Even a shower cable at 20A can still go under as the time it is on is likley to be short so again , it is not likley to over heat. Ideally though, it should go over.

The issue of hidden cables is just the same as cables in walls - look or scan before you drill/cut!

Just asked my brother in law who is a sparky, he says makes no difference.
It never even occurred to me personally, I have reinsulated my loft and boarded over the top of it, the wires are under the whole lot.
