Elvis
Any Elvis fans on here, I have never counted myself as such but I had the radio on today and I heard a couple, namely,

and, I love this one, mainly as it was in one of my favourite films, Men in Black, the bit where K is driving the car on the roof of the tunnel, which makes it cool. I know its a cover version, prefer the Elvis version to Chuck Berry's original.

A friend of mine goes to see Elvis in concert, he isn't very old and its all on big screen with a proper band but he says he defies anyone to doubt Elvis is not there. They use the original band and use proper video footage of Elvis introducing everyone. It costs him a fortune but he reckons its excellent.

Do you like him enough to buy this ...
"A collection of rock and roll memorabilia is up for auction including a mould of Elvis Presley’s teeth together with a crown made for the star by his dentist. The mould of his mouth is estimated to sell for up to £10,000."

This is lovely. He had a glorious laugh Makes me wonder if the backing singer does it on purpose to crack him up.

Seriously though, his voice is superb. Can't pick a favourite song, there are too many

Elvis was the best around. He was right at the start of the modern music era especially as he integrated black music to the wider US population.

He changed the words to the song and cracked himself up didn't he?

Elvis made a habit of not sticking to the lyrics. Normally, Elvis should sing at a certain moment
"Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there". In this particular version he sings "Do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair".
The song continues for a couple of seconds and then Elvis spotted a man that is completely bald.
Hence the laughter.
At the end of the song, Elvis mumbles something like : "Oh God, I have never met this before, ..."

Nobody invented rock and blues, it was just there to be discovered; the skin colour of those who first happened upon it ought to become irrelevant with time, as far as I can see and hope. Elvis just brought a great sound to a wider audience - he was a messenger of sorts, a catalyst. I love his version of Bridge over Troubled Waters. He always acknowledged the roots of his sound, down on the tracks, he never claimed the blues for himself.

Not sure what you are getting at??
When Elvis started there was a huge gulf between black gospel/blues music and popular white music. Elvis bridged that gap and the divide more or less disappeared. Rock 'n Roll came to the fore with folk like Chuck Berry and then the white stars like Bill Haley. Rock 'n Roll being a Negro slang term for sex

Alright stop, collaborate and listen. He was more like M&M - the real deal who just happened to have different skin pigmentation. People with dark skin and people with lighter skin like Robert Johnson and Bill Haley and The 'Stones and Ottis Reading and De La Soul and that's all cool. Right? If you're divvying-up genre according to one's ancestors' closeness to the equator then you need to wake-up and realise how ridiculous that is. Brother.
