Default Travelling To London

Morning All

Travelling into London for a seminar, was contemplating driving in. Is the Hammersmith Bypass still closed?, if so how much of an inconvinience does that cause?.
Got to go to the Royal National Hotel at Russel Square which is smack in the middle of London from what i can see.

Would i be better driving to the edge of london and tubing it?.

Also how do i go about paying the congestion charge if i drive?.

Hammersmith Flyover has one lane open for cars doesn't it?

Congestion Charge you can pay online before you go or up to midnight on the day at £10. Or, it's £12 by midnight the following day.

Hammersmith Flyover having one lane shut added about 15 minutes to my journey on Thursday going to Earls Court.

If someone else is paying, I would probably get the train and tube.

agree, driving into London nowadays is a nightmare unless you have the patience. I would drive as close as you can to a mainline station and use either the underground or overground train depending on where you want to get.

As in earlier post congestion charges are a joke, cheaper getting the tube/train.

tempted just to drive it as parking is 8 for 6 hours where i need to go.

just wondered if the bypass was worth the risk or not. got to be there for 9.30 so may just drive it in that case.

Driving in , good luck with that

With London there's so many variables that make you so late, train would be first choice everytime

No, that is worse. Traffic peaks from 7:30am -> 10:00am (some would say all day!) so you should aim to be there by 8am or take the train ...

You can drive into Hammersmith Broadway and park in the multistory car park here http://www.kings-mall.co.uk/how-to-get-here.html £11.00 for six to nine hours parking, get the tube from Hammersmith Broadway Picadilly or District line.

If your going from Bristol catch the train into Paddington then the tube to Russel Sq, much quicker than driving, much less hassle parking, and you wont get stuck on the M4 going in or out.

Definitely train or tube - speaking as a 30 year resident of London -a car is a nightmare in town. Much quicker and much much cheaper to leave the car at home.
