i bought 20000 just before i used the money to pay my mortgage off. Reckoned i wouldnt have another chance to try. I won between 150 and 250 pounds almost every month. After 6 months hadnt won the millions so took it out and settled my mortgage. worked out at 6% return.

My gran also had quite a lot and she used to get a cheque every month for about 60 quid. Think she had about 10000 in bonds.

I've had about £10k in there for the past 6 months, and won the square-root of jack (okay, I got £25 once) - not been as good as a savings account so far.

I had £20k in them about 13 years ago, used to get at least 1 cheque a month. At the time it worked out slightly better than a savings account, was quite nice getting the letters as it added a bit more excitment than looking at a savings statement.

It's pretty poor odds though unless you've got loads in there. Think you can get £30k now, back when i did it £20k was max iirc. I'd usually get one a month so if you break the odds down, it's poor really. I'd certainly never bother with lesser amounts. I kow people that have a grand or a couple of hundred, waste of time.

Mind you, I wish I had a couple of hundred quid to stick in there these days
