Question How to compare bikes?

I looked at a nice Bianchi C2C bike today. It was £850. So what factors so I look at when comparing it to other bikes? For example, is this bike better or worse than a £900 Boardman from Halfords?

I'm getting a new machine to replace my hybrid through the Cycle to Work scheme and don't want to spend more than £1000 (including pedals and clip on shoes).

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Looking at brand new bikes the mainstream manufacturers strive to hit the 999 marker so they are much of a muchness in terms of kit. Usually aluminium frame with carbon forks

Campag Xenon / Mirage goupset versus Dura Ace 105 groupset with often FSA cranksets......

I'd pick one you like the look of and feel comfortable sitting on Personally the Bianci Blue grates on me and has done since 1973 LOL

Having said that the Boardman does have the edge on kit......meybe they buy in bulk for a better price ?

As Shaun says, the most important thing should be the fit of the bike.

Also, the groupset....personally, I prefer the shape of the Campag brake hoods for my hands.

The better groupsets will be lighter and made of different materials but you get a decent bike to start with and you can always upgrade!

Right, this Giant Defy 2 seems to have better components than a similarly priced Bianchi VIA NIRONE 7.

I'll try and get a test ride on both (different shops) but which does the SN Massive say is the best spec between them?

If you are playing top trumps then Tiagra trumps Sora..........

Depends on taste, I don't like compact frames with very sloping tubes. It looks like you have nicked a kids bike and put the saddle up LOL

Since it's not Celeste (Bianchi blue) I'd rather have an italian name (both will be far east frames) so I'd go for the Bianchi if it fitted OK IMHO

Ta Shaun.

I do like the look of the Italian model.

Would a clod hopper like e really tell the difference between a Sora and Tiagra gear set?

I don't think you will, The bloke who sits opposite me has a Koga Miyata with Sora kit that he does his "less than perfect weather" sportives on and he has no complaints. For perfect weather he has a Basso Astra but that set him back £3k LOL

Best have a sit on them and see what you think, I've got short arms and found the Cervelo's a real stretch. Always possible to change the stem though.

Verenti Carbon above Trumps both the Giant and Bianchi in kit but again it's a compact..
