Well it was entertaining. I wonder what good reason they really have for not wanting photos of the works taken from outside the property.

There can't be a good reason in law since it is not covered by the official secrets act, unless Golden Wonder have found the secret of world domination or something.

Anyway they could not come up with a legal reason to prevent it and what they were saying was all bluster of course.

Reading the comments is a laugh as well.

For those not sure of the law:

http://www.sirimo.co.uk/2009/05/14/u...ers-rights-v2/

explains it all very clearly (and for photographers includes a printable A4 sheet you can carry)

A credit to Scunthorpe and its inhabitants

I find it very disturbing.
There is evidence that the individual doing the photographing has also been challenged outside another Scunthorpe factory and even the town's HOSPITAL.
Each time he was taking photos in a public place.

Each time, security came out with rules they spoke of as LAWS.

Where has all this COME FROM?

Mind, if you listen, the guy is brilliant: not confrontational, never allows the security a chance to GET confrontational....I'm not sure I could do it

She's a right little cow. Definitely not getting any.

Golden Wonder should be embarrassed to have staff like that on their payroll.

Edited to say: or not, as they case may be. But it's still surely an embarrassment for them.

Haha, love it, but then I do have a problem with authority anyway lol.

Interestingly, after reading a bit about the law of taking photos. Did you know it's illegal to photograph bank notes?!

It's open to interpretation .. if someone was asked not take photos because a child was in the photo, then they would need to be pretty up themselves to quote the law ..

"Does the photo subject expect privacy? Even on public property, you can’t photograph somebody who has a “reasonable expectation of privacy.” Basically, that means you can’t snap shots of people in the bathroom, a dressing room, or similar places. Ask yourself: “Would the average person expect privacy?” If so, don’t take a photo.
Along the same lines, don’t sneak photographs of people from bizarre angles. In essence, you can’t go around taking “up skirt” photographs. Even if you’re on the public sidewalk."

I would expect privacy for my child.

That is fairly straightforward though. What they are saying is you cannot take pics of people if you are in a public place like a toilet etc. but taking pics of kids in a park is absolutely not prohibited, and there is nothing you could do about it.

Obviously for many reasons you shouldn't!!!!!

It's one of the 'freedoms' that the gutter press use to photograph celebrities and their kids with long range lenses

Reading some of his blogs, it appears that he first became aware of the problem when taking photos of local under 11 footy for his nephew.
The kids loved it, using his shots for facebook etc, but one father, (whose son ALSO loved it and had posted several shots of himself in action), objected

Well .. that's not true, if you called the police they would certainly act on someone taking photos of kids .. question them and if they didn't have a good reason (i.e local pressure, etc) I'm pretty sure they would polity ask them to move on.

Or the parents would have a quiet word.

It is for the Chief Constable to ensure that Officers and Police Community Support Officers are acting appropriately with regards to photography in public places, and any queries regarding this should be addressed to the Chief Constable.

However decisions may be made locally to restrict photography, for example to protect children. Any questions on such local decisions should also be addressed to the force concerned."

ECHR claims that photographing a child in the street with their parents can be considered a violation of their right to privacy, either way some weirdo middle aged man photographing my children without a good reason is going to get knocked out and his camera smashed to pieces.

OK, I understand that you feel that way, but I'm not advocating anyone should go out and do it

All I'm doing is asking if any LAW in the UK forbids it?

Let's say that you want to photograph a local footy match going on? Do you then expect the photographer to gain permission from every parent? from every person there? Does the local paper photographer need the same?

I seriously hope no-one ever does photograph your kid without permission. I don't want you to go to prison.;(
