Are you sure you won't get freeview come switch off?
Wales had analogue switched off some time ago and my mothers flat is in a valley by the sea. Freeview didn't work until switch off. The signal was boosted on switch over and the digital tuner started receiving a signal.
She doesn't get as many channels as she does at her house in Cardiff mind you.

They all have sat dishes tho and the local electic retailers ,were anyway, maintaining it wasnt possible ( without trying to flog us anything )
Cant imagine why cant - the transmitter is only 3.5 mile away and nothing in the way

Generally speaking if you can get a good analogue TV signal you 'should' get DVB unless you are using the wrong type of aerial (or its mouted the wrong way and needs rotating).
DVB signal gets stronger after the switch-off too.
As when they switched off our analogue we were able to get HD channels, which we couldn't hope of getting before...all this using an aerial and cable that was fitted in 1986 with no booster. Whilst our niehgbours prior to switch-over fitted huge high gain aerials and CT100 cable...if they waited a few years they'd need not have bothered!
(we never use DVB anyway as we have both satelite and cable, still, its nice to know it works )

Right checked your postcode, the best signal you can get will be freeview lite from the newhaven relay transmitter which is only 5km away. As it stands right now you can't freeview
But come 13th of june you will have no problems receiving freeview lite.
A little bit of info on freeview lite is herehttp://www.ukfree.tv/fullstory.php?storyid=1107051024

I suppose I have to modify it by making it clear that we are in an area for poor digital signal reception, the usual hill between the view of the ground tranmitter. I cant say how good it would be if the signal was better of course. The satellite reception is always spot on and never fails. The quality is also excellent.

Ok, obstruction can be a problem .
But your original quote came across as a sweeping statement as fact, which it isn't.
Has your area switched over. You might be surprised how much the quality and strength improves after DSO

dpb - do you have a line of sight to Hastings? I'm a little east of you by the looks of it, and get my freeview from there. Apparently after 13 June I can get a signal from South Cliff Tower, which I can see from my lounge window as I type, so I guess it should be a decent signal.

At least with the dish I get an immense choice of programmes available. That will have coloured my original statement also of course.
