Default Removing private plate ??

Guys anyone able to advise me on the following ?? selling my car just now which is wearing a private plate, if the new owner does not want to pay extra for the plate will be removing it and putting it on retention certificate to sell at a latter date, okay just wonder what the easiest procedure would be to do this ?? can it be done after the car is sold as obviously if I do it now its going to be a good few weeks before I have all the relevant documents ( v5 / mot certificate etc ) back to give to the new owner .

Easiest way is to go to your local DVLA office and do it rather than via post, if your lucky 5-10 days at the most, take a copy of the v5 to show any prospective buyers if they are interested they will wait a short while

I looked into this. Best to do it before the sale. However, you cannot sell the car until you've got your V5 back with the old numberplate information. From start to finish this process took several weeks and I was pushing it along.

I did that in August and still have the fecking car I might not sell it and I refuse to put the plate back on it out of spite

Whenever I have been to a DVLA office on that account, they do it on the spot!

I did this last week. I can't believe how quickly everything was processed.

Wed 11: Went to DVLA Office
Fri 13: New tax disc and amended MOT arrived in the post
Mon 16: Retention document arrived
Wed 18th: Replacement Log book arrives

DVLA can't be faulted on this occasion

We printed off the V778 form off the website, filled it in and took it all to the DVLA office in worcs just before christmas. New V5 came in the post 2 days later!

Basically it all depends on how busy they are.

Form can be found here: http://www.numberplateclassifieds.co.uk/images/V778.pdf

Bear in mind the grantee is the registered keeper of the vehicle, so sort it before selling the car otherwise the new owner will have the rights to the plate.

They must have changed the rules, or maybe told me wrong because they said I could install the replacement plate to drive home with. So I did!

Funny enough when I changed mine at the local DVLA office I asked if I could change the plate straight away and was told no I would have to waitt until the new replacment tax disc was received / put on car. saying that you would be very unlucky to be stopped for fitting the plates before the new tax disc was received but nowadays try not to chance anything !!
